no the front baffle of these speakers (JBL LE8 + 075 in this video) the front baffle is recessed 19 -25 mm deep. I realize that this technique significantly increases the strength of a cabinet which it was traditionally employed but unfortunately it also increases diffraction. The speakers sound very good and could sound even better on an uninterrupted baffle . This is the same reason why drivers are flush mounted on baffles today. Thank you for posting I very much enjoyed listening to your speakers.

It seems they were made when JBL experimented with a “Japanese” sound. Very dynamic one, very bright. May be a Japanese cartridge helps, I’m not sure (do not recognize it)

Actually sounds very good considering its a single full range driver , with the addition of the 075. Very interested in setting up the same. Would you care to share how you set up the 2 drivers ? Did you add a crossover ? passive or active with DSP ? Would appreciate your advice on how to set up the same. Many thanks Alain

Hello Alan. As you can see, it is a simple 2-way speaker that connects LE8T and 075 using a dividing network JBL3106 with a crossover frequency of 8kHz.

very nice sound. do you think you might consider trimming the cabinet so the baffle is no longer recessed? You would eliminate a lot of unnecessary diffraction.

Thank you for watching. Are you talking about round baffles? I made one for the D130 40 years ago, and I think there was a change when I measured the characteristics, but I remember that there was no change at all when I listened to it.
