Dennis is fine. This was recorded early in 2020. or late 2919. He had a liver transplant recently and is on the mend and getting better every day. He had some scary moments but he's good now. Had some growths inside near the liver. but he has someone else's liver now.

He said in a later interview that he was in very bad shape when this happened at the beginning of the year, his abdomen was full of liquid due an illness he is dealing with; playing at that level, while he was sick is another proof that Dennis is the GOAT, period. Thankfully seems like is doing better nowadays!

Dennis is like the Jordan of drumming. Every kid who grew up drumming in the late 90s early 00's idolized this guy. His video tape was the first one I studied.

This is the truth. I wore out In The Pocket on vhs. I still have it. There is a song in there called Wabash that is one of the nastiest things I’ve ever heard. The Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship Show with Dennis, Greg Bissonette, Vinnie, Gadd, Weckl, and Bellson was another tape that I watch religiously. I learned so much from watching these guys, but Dennis was THE MAN. Still is to me.

This is great. Dennis has phenomenal chops but he knows when to layback and play the pocket, that’s why he’s in such demand. Keep the beat so you can eat! Now a days with the “KZitem” drummer and social media happening all you see are licks/linear chops and crossovers...like watching the NBA slam dunk competition but there is no actual game. To have a career like Dennis, would be a dream come true.

This man, Dennis Chambers, is the reason I fell in love with drums. I entered into a Guitar Center at the age of 14 in Chicago, they had his video playing on a big t.v. at the drum department. His musicality is what got my attention the most, then his smooth look. I had been around musicians and music, but that was at another level. Let's just say, I walked out with 2-VHS (yes, I'm telling my age 😆) "Serious Moves" & "In the Pocket". Been in love with drums ever since. Thank you Dennis. Praying for you and your family. I was lucky to translate a drum clinic that Dennis did, and when he played I was sitting on the floor right behind the kit. His playing was so deep that it changed my drumming world forever. Afterwards we had dinner and he shared amazing music stories you would only believe because it was coming from him. Great sense of humor combined with a true love and respect for drumming, drummers and music.

17:42 I'm trying to explain this to all my students, almost all of them underestimate the blues and get lost in 12 bars while playing. They don't even know why they have to learn the blues. Even if I explain with explanations. Blues and all blues time signature vers. are most important music forms for jazz music, rock music, pop music essipacially for jazz fusion. After blues, must play rhythm changes, it will be next level. Later than you can play jazz standarts or jazz fusion, even contemporary jazz very well.

Chic Webb was from Balmer Hon ! And so was Cass Elliot and Frank Zappa, Billie Holiday & lots more. Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, was from a town way north of Baltimore named Elkton Md. I grew up in Balmer, down the street from Johns Hopkins summer estate, known as Clifton Park Golf Course back in the sixties. Across the park from North Ave. & Gay street. I too started playing drums in the basement of my parents small row home. Great neighbors ! (they didn't complain to my folks)

Thank God that Dennis is in good health now!!! I love this man. I love his message play for the music and only play for the music. Do you think Aaron took that in. I mean, Aaron has mad chops, but like Keith Carlock who plays with Steely Dan. If Aaron came in and played gospel chops don't think he would have got the gig. Play for the music that is the drummer's job. End of story!!

The very truth : if the phone doesnt ring , doesnt matter how many chops you have,,, that should tell you something!!!!! its not about the drummer and never will be , its about the music , and more deeply when you are a hired gun playing for somebody else. We are there to serve the music not to show chops etc. When the time is right , it will be a moment to have your moment to do " the chops " part if the situation allows that. AS always: its about the groove , the feel and the sound you project. That with a great attitude produce that the phone will ring offering you work.

The name of the venue was Motown greatest artists or something like that. James Brown had on a checked blazer , he song was night train. And the rolling stones were very reluctant to come on after him. At that time James Brown had a lot to prove to all the Motown artists, that he was just as good or even better than anyone else... and the next thing everyone knew he appeared on the Ed Sullivan show and he even bought his own band!! The godfather of soul didn't look back, following close behind was the big " O" , call me mr. Piteful...the wicked Pickett, Sam & Dave. And they really got out of control with Hendrix and Sly Stone, with " Pee funk " en nemes.
