I purchased it nearly 5 years ago off Amazon. Either way, looking on Amazon, I only could find their Beech color here (amzn.to/4apoeLc).

One point of annoyance for me was how loose the adjustment knob is from the factory. There's no resistance whatsoever. Mine used to tighten whilst grinding. Solution - a roll of PTFE tape. You have to disassemble the whole thing to get the shaft out and actually get to that thread, but when you add a couple of turns of PTFE tape to it (add some & test how it feels, set it up to your liking), the problem disappears and you never have to take it apart like that again. Be extremely careful with the tiny wood screws. They will have cut a thread into the wood the first time they were installed, try to find that thread again when reassembling. Turn in reverse until you feel it click or drop in place, then it should freely screw down until it tightens at the end.

Good to know about that as a potential fix. I know the company has like a 22 year warranty on the grinding mechanism so it’s always something that could be pursued as an alternative. I noticed that mine loosens up sometimes while grinding as well. But, usually I just hold that part to stabilize it as I use it and that stops it from shifting. Don’t think I would take it apart cause I’d suspect it’d loosen components or not come back together as well afterwards (at least in my hands).

@@AndrewRockKZitem There's really not much to it, the hard part is getting the handle off. That's what requires taking the tiny wood screws out (to get the mechanism out), so you can grip the burr with something. As to why the handle itself threads on... that's a question only Zassenhaus can answer 😅 But if you want, try to just take the handle off (without forcing anything). If it comes off, then you can get at the adjuster thread easily. If not, stick the nut back on and carry on lol But I had to do mine, it was driving me nuts 🤣

Hi Andrew, Great video. I have the same grinder in black and chrome. I started using my Santiago about 6 weeks ago and am now using it twice a day for my Moka Pot. I can only get 3 full (360 degree) turns plus another 1/4 turn from the very bottom to the very top. I have been using about 2.5 turns from the bottom for my Moka Pot. I am wondering if you have problems with the adjustment moving after a grind as every morning for my first grind I use it, the grins consistency has changed from the day before and have to adjust it again. I am looking at purchasing an Olympia Cremina manual espresso machine and wondering if the Santiago will be good enough ?

Thanks for watching. Sorry to hear about the grinder mechanism not working effectively. First, I would recommend checking the cup portion of the grinder and seeing if it is getting caught anywhere? That part slides up and down when you screw the top portion. So, if a coffee bean or something got stuck/clogged underneath, it may impair adjustment of the mechanism. If it is not that, you can just slide off the cup underneath the grinder entirely. It does come off and can slide back on. I had that happen once where it popped off, but I easily got it back on without problems. Start with that and see if it resolves your issue. If not, Zassenhaus has a 25 year warranty, so you can reach out to the company directly and see if they could replace it given it has something to do with the grinding mechanism. Let me know how it goes with Zassenhaus if you choose to do that. It is always good to know how receptive companies are with their warranties and the warranty process. As for your other question, I can't really comment on that. I do not make or use expresso, so I do not know whether it will cover what you need. Thanks again for watching. Andrew

I do not make expresso. So can’t really know. I’ve been meaning to use it to make Turkish coffee but it does make super fine grind at the finest setting. So I do not see why it wouldn’t work well. I’ve been very happy with it for years

Would you recommend the finest grind for Turkish coffee?
@AndrewRockYoutube
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, usually Turkish coffee requires a very very fine grind. So for the Zassenhaus, it would need to be set all the way ‘up’ to grind it the finest. I personally do not own a Turkish coffee maker yet so I can speak to how well the grind is for that though. I’ve looked into them in the past but just have not purchased one yet. Thanks for watching. I hope that answered your question. Andrew

Look at the design of the grinder, you're supposed to clamp it between your thighs... Saves the skin on your knuckles too ;-)
@AndrewRockYoutube
Жыл бұрын
Lol. Have you ever tried clamping it between your thighs? It doesn’t really work that way. Easiest thing is to hold along the top with your left hand and clasp the screw mechanism so it doesn’t shift at all. Then just grind. Pretty straightforward.

@@AndrewRockKZitem Yup, doing it like that every time. It is the easiest way to grind. It's even referred to as a 'Traditional lap mill'. You can google it, I did not make it up :)

What kind of grind would you recommend for a French press?
@AndrewRockYoutube
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I literally just made some coffee using my French Press because my Bodum pour over maker fell over and broke. I would recommend something coarser. Try about 2 full turns from the bottom. When I tried the bottom most setting it did not pull out as much flavor from the coffee. Try it out and let me see what you think. Andrew

Medium to coarse sand. Roughly 1/16 to 1/8 inch. Even though it's coarse you're expected to 'bloom' the grains meaning when adding hot water to saturate it all and let it swell for 30 to 60 seconds before adding more water. I find adding height to the pour will naturally stir the grains releasing more of the oils.

Had to translate this to English to understand. But, from my understanding, you’re recommending putting the grinder between your legs and grinding with 3 fingers. That is an option, but I find there’s no issue just using two hands. Just takes some getting used to with where you put your left hand so that it doesn’t get hit by the handle.

I have never made expresso with it as I do not have an expresso maker. However, it does provide a grind that is very fine. So, I anticipate it should work. Just haven’t really ever done expresso myself. Thanks for watching and the comment. Andrew
