The bulged trunnion & 1.5mm receiver is nothing but unnecessary added weight. But the market wants it. 🤠

Good point! Millions of 1 mm Ak’s out there, decades old, got the job done.

Great video comparison! When the fixed stock NPAP's and OPAP's came out I could never understand why the NPAP was more expensive than the OPAP. Both were imported by Century and the OPAP was built like a tank. To me the NPAP was kind of cheesy and frail in comparison. The OPAP's shoot great! Anyway, thanks for the video. Let us know when Zastava USA brings in some ZPAP under folders with nice furniture! (Sorry. I couldn't resist! lol)

I appreciate you watching it. Not sure why NPAP was more expensive than OPAP because OPAP was better rifle, since they had 1.5 mm receiver and bulged trunnion. After I made this video, I actually changed top hand guard on it with “cheese grater” top so only half of it is battle worn now lol.

@@balkanshed I'm glad to hear that yours is now only "half battle worn!" LOL I recall being in Fleet Farm when the NPAP's and OPAP's were on the market. The sales guy tried to get me to buy the NPAP, but he couldn't come up with a reason. Side by side it was like night and day. Naturally, I listened politely and then told him to give me the paperwork and wrap up the OPAP. LOL

First, Great comparison. IIRC the NPAPS had some issues along the way.

I believe it was the generation before the NPAP series that had reliability issues since they were imported with single stack bolt and when they converted them to accept double stack magazines, some of the rifles malfunctioned.

@@balkanshed that may be the case. I just remember the AKOU npap example having some major issues. I don’t blame Zastava, I blame century arms.

@@KalashmanNC my first m70 type AK that I purchased in US was century built m70, slapped together out of parts kit. All I can say that rifle was disaster. Century definitely had some quality control issues over the years.

chrome lined seems the way to go.....but I saw somewhere that the old ones had steel they couldn't drill, when trying to de-mil it for import (edit) Subbed

@@balkanshed that’s what I’ve been hearing! Seems like Zastava is the way to go! I have about 300 rounds through my GF5 and I noticed inside the carrier where that groove is that lets the bolt slide back and forth….theres marks on the outside of that groove towards the front where your piston is. Is that normal to see markings like that? I’m a noob to the ak game but it seems for a light 300 why am I seeing them marks? Not on the inside of the groove but the outside there’s like swirl marks?

@@Grizzlyman420 hard to tell without actually seeing it but some do get marks from bolt movement on tracks. I really wouldn’t be concerned with it unless you start seeing change in metal thickness or metal shavings.

@@Osito_codm31 some of my Zastavas did the same, I really don’t know why except that it could be some kind of kink in bluing process. I would recommend reaching out to Zastava USA though email, they are good about responding to them.

That’s cleaning rod. It’s usually considered standard equipment that comes with AK’s but every now and then manufacturer might not include them so they would save few bucks.

@@pdxxmatt not sure what state you’re in and what their laws are but as far as I know, federal laws allows sale of rifles to anyone over the age of 18, and underfolder AK is considered a rifle. Also when FFL does your background checks, if it’s not approved right away, but also hadn’t been denied either, they will release the weapon to you after not getting a response for certain amount of time, not sure of exactly how many days but I don’t think it’s 10 days.
