1. Pachulia took his first step unrealistically long. 2. Pachulia took 2 extra steps going at a slow speed. 3. For anyone saying this isn't a dirty play, listen to what the shoutcaster is saying; "getting his feet into the landing space of the shooter". Intentionally disrupting the landing of another player is a dirty play, ankles roll very easily especially when they land on uneven surfaces. The guy cant defend Kawhi so he just decides to take him out, seeing as he took an extra step under Kawhi's foot after the close out, it's honestly pathetic.

Is it old school classic dirty - no conclusive evidence for sure. But worse, I think it follows this snide underhanded trend of "undercover" dirty plays while trying to play innocent and play dumb to what happened. It displays a sense of cowardness and entitlement- the shot was off and Zaza wasnt going to knock it down and he came down into Leonard's landing spot- the was about a foot of space for Leonard to land in between Zaza and landing in the crowd- Zaza has been around the block- he knew where Leonard would be coming down and he didnt give a care one way or the other- was it actively dirty, not completely, was he negligent- heck yeah.

This play and game goes to show three things: 1. The Spurs are the only team that can have a 20 point lead on the road against Golden State 2. When the Warriors are losing by 20 or more points, Steve Kerr calls timeout and tells them to intentionally hurt the other team's best player so they can come back and win 3. What momentum he act as if he was running out to block the shot he wasn't even in position to block the shot he was just challenging the shot he step out to the three point line and lied and said he was going for the rebound he never went to try to grab a rebound

Any real hooper will always respect the shooter and has a sense of awareness where to land on a contested shot. You dont try to block and then take a step in, that is so dirty!

intentional my ass, do you realize how accurate you'd have to be to do that! He was obviously contesting a shot therefore he was sprinting forward

Mike Hawk - That's the whole point! Why would Zaza make it look as obvious as possible? It's an old school dirty play that has now been outlawed by the league. You contest the shot and then when everyone else is following the ball - including the refs; you extend your leg out as the shooter is coming down from the shot so your foot will be in the vicinity of where the player will land on the court. The key is to make it as unintentional as possible. Zaza's been around the block a few times in this league & is notorious for those types of innocuous but dirty plays - arm grabs, elbows, moving screens, sliding under shooting players, etc. There are KZitem videos composed of clips showing doing all of those things. He knew Kawhi had re-aggravated it & exactly how to sell it as an unintentional play.

Mike Hawk Playing basketball for 20 years I've never landed under a foot and I've never seen someone take bigger strides them me. my steps are so big people think I travel. It was intentional. Dude literally stretched out his leg that's not how you contest a shot it's with vert and reach, on top of that he took 2 and a half extra steps.

You want to see dirty? Go watch some clips of Bruce Bowen, who used to pull that kind of crap for years on behalf of the San Antonio Spurs. It's comical how Spurs fans are yelling foul - karma is a b**ch, isn't it? And no matter what your opinion is on that play, the Spurs and their beloved Coach Pop still choked away a 23-point lead. No reason a 61-win team shouldn't be able to preserve a victory in that situation. And by the way, they choked away a 22-point first quarter deficit to a Warriors team playing without Kevin Durant on March 30th. But I guess that one was Zaza's fault too, right?

ik its a used dirty trick but if something is always happening in a way which seems accidental and unintentional, isnt it weird to call it intentional every single time it happens? despite how much it's believed to be a dirty move. if every single time people thought that it was done on purpose, how can you be sure other than sheer blinded belief that it wasn't accidental? He might be a professional player but isn't it conceivable in someone's tiny mind that he did step a few more times on accident in this particular instence? I'm not defending, I'm just asking opinions on actual odds of something hapenning by accident and not just blind brain dead automatic belief
@TUBESTEAKNIG

Of course you can never be 100% sure, but I think the large outrage is because people KNOW, having been players themselves that this type of shit just doesn't really happen unless you want it to. These guys aren't 7th graders shuffling around the court either, they are professional athletes who have way more kinesthetic awareness and control than 99% of us, especially on the court. Nobody just fumbles underneath another player.

Zaza Pachulia apparently shuffled his feet towards Leonard's shooting space as he was coming down from his shot. This is an automatic foul in the league because of the high chance to cause injury to a player.

I watched this video countless times and it is quite obvious that Zaza's attention is completely towards the ball. He even turns around to see where the ball is before Kawhi steps on his foot. I really think it is stupid to think that he did it on purpose.

The problem was that Kawhi kept playing after reinjuring his ankle on his own guy a couple of minutes earlier, up 18 points. Pop should have taken him out then. If you really want to see a dirty play, check the intentional foul on Curry that leveled him, to stop play when Kawhi tripped over his own man and hurt his ankle the first time. Whereas Zaza's defense was not dirty, just big-man clumsy.
