It can't have been based on the actual item, because the Sheikah wouldn't ever have had access to it: it was chilling inside a random steward construct in the Sky for the whole time the Sheikah were developing their technology. But if the Sheikah had somehow found or inherited Mineru's notes about the Purah Pad, then it's possible they might have used those notes when developing the Sheikah Slate. There do seem to be some weird implications of a connection between the Sheikah and the Zonai, so I don't think we can rule out the possibility that this could very well have happened. If you think about it, there's a really cool reason why Ganondorf in this game looks so much more like Demise than previous Ganondorfs did; in this game, he becomes the Demon King through the Zonai secret stones, which are stated to be power _amplifiers;_ they take a person's innate powers and abilities and amplifies them. My theory as to why all the Sheikah technology disappeared is because like the shrine monks, they faded away once they served their purpose. This is why there are several caves and chasms in the places where the shrines and towers once stood. Purah and Robbie then tried to re-create some of it like the towers and the Sheikah Slate, but since the full knowledge of the technology has been lost, they are not perfect replicas. The skyview towers can't scan land on their own and then distill it into the pad, and the Purah Pad is unable to re-create all the runes the Sheikah Slate had.

I've seen some say that Link should have gotten his own secret stone at some point in the game but like... the secret stones only amplify your powers. Link's only innate "power" is that he's a natural born badass, which I don't think the secret stone could do anything for lol. Also he already has the Master Sword, which is quite literally THE ultimate weapon.
@derrickcrowe3888

It would depend on whether the powers granted by Rauru's arm count as Link's or not. I have a personal theory that secret stones are created from highly refined zonaite (hence their role as power sources), so if Link gets a secret stone in DLC it would plausibly manifest as infinite or multiplied battery life.

Most prefer that Link doesn't get one. It makes him comparable to the Wind Waker Link in a sense - he wasn't chosen by any great power and no one GAVE him anything, he's just so determined and unwilling to give up that he can still overcome mountains. Also, the thought of a completely mortal, unpowered Link matching the strength and speed of Ganondorf who is the 'Master of the Secret Stones' is just really funny to me. 😅

@@richardlee3679 Not sure where you're getting the consensus of "most" from. But even if Link does get a secret stone, it would only be in DLC, so the standard experience is still fighting Ganondorf without one. It would be about as canon as the master cycle.

it's crazy that i never noticed the similarities between Rauru and the spirit dragons, they really do just look like Zonai, makes you wonder what other races would like as dragons (we've seen Zelda and Ganondorf, one hylian and one gerudo) this game never fails to amaze me, your telling of the story is incredible Zeltik!
@softsounds8453

Yeah they've got the droopy lips, big floppy ears, and giant white mane that Rauru has. There's also the fact that the Zonai have ritual armor that mimics these dragons' appearances, and there's cautionary tales about dragonification. The three dragons definitely are gonna end up being three Zonai that ate their sacred stones for one reason or another, way before Zelda took the plunge herself.

Forgot to compare Zelda's dragon to the spirit ones! Zelda's got little ears that stick out to the side and a tighter face compared to the others because those are Hylian features. And of course she's got flat gold hair rather than their white spiky manes. I can't remember much about Ganon's dragon rn but I do wonder if his features (ears, snout, hair) transferred to his dragon too. I know it has his red mane at least!

One detail I noticed that I really love is how you can see which traits Zelda shares with each of her ancestors. She's kind and caring like Sonia, she's adventurous and prefers her endeavors to ruling similar to Rauru, and finally she's intelligent and always looking for more to learn like Mineru. Even with so many generations between them, they are still clearly family. I dunno I think it's sweet given Zelda had any semblance of a normal family growing up taken away from her so young. You can see how much she needed to have that, even if it was only for a little.

It baffles me sometimes why Ganondorf chose brute force as a first attack on Hyrule, when if he already knew how to control dark magic, why not just use it, but eventually I realized he didn't want to show off his full hand too soon. Those things swim through sand, not other terrain types.

It's really interesting to see that in between botw and totk, Zelda moved into Link's house. She removed all the weapons, bows and shields hanging on the wall, and replaced it with pictures of her people and beloved golden horse. The pictures are actually represent several mini tasks which related to the true Zelda. She also opened the small room at the back of the house, which was closed in botw. The "Link's house" sign in the front of the house was also removed.

Strange that the most recent calamity damaged the sealing magic by raising the castle, since the castle wasn't even a part of the seal Rauru created. Unless... What if Rauru's body lasted just as long as Ganondorf's did, seeing as they both got caught in the same magical suspended animation? The damage to the castle could have destroyed Rauru's body, crushing his mummified husk and severing the arm from the rest of him. As Rauru says at the start of the game, he no longer has a physical form: we take that to mean he's died, but it could be more literal, that he's alive by his magic for now but has no body but the hand to cling to.

Until you pointed it out, I didn't notice that the Zonai don't have tails; I just took it for granted they did when I equipped the Hero's aspect and saw it gave Link a tail. That being said, maybe they do, but the size/shape is an ethnic trait? Perhaps Rauru and Minaru have tails, but they're more like rabbit tails. Ethnic diversity could also account for the Hero having green skin/fur and red hair while Rauru and Minaru have ashy/grey fur and white hair; in BotW and TotK we already see more ethnic diversity than in any previous game - eg both Hylians and Gerudo show the same range of skin variation as real life humans rather than being just undefined lighter skin colour in the former and vaguely Middle Eastern in the latter. Is there anything in any previous game/media that says Link can only incarnate as a Hylian? If not, I think it'd be kinda cool if in a future game we got to play as none-Hylian Links, be it another Zonai hybrid, a Zora, a Rito or whatever. I know we have Majora's Mask letting you use a Zora form, a Goron form, a Dekuscrub form, etc, but those are just temporary 'costumes' you take on and off rather than actually being one of those races and playing as them for a full game.

A few of the Gorons even said they would do ANYTHING to get that rock roast. One should be able to come to the conclusion that the Gorons will even be willing to fight alongside the monster forces against the people of Hyrule. You can tell that’s what Ganondorf wants to do since he used that mask to corrupt Yunobo, making yunobo the supplier of rock roast to the Gorons. All Yunobo needs to do is tell the other Gorons that they can’t have their precious rock roast until they have completed their task.This fits perfectly with Ganondorf’s character too. Especially since Ganondorf is infatuated with making himself more powerful and the Gorons are such powerhouses that it would be a mistake to waste such a powerful army. Besides, the way those Gorons eyes were glowing while they munched on that red rock was really creepy. Especially with the way the town was all dark and gloomy. I'm not too keen on TotK story, but it's actually contextualized and greatly improved for me another game I'm not so fond of, Twilight Princess. I'm now getting a pretty strong grasp on the mythology and symbolism of it's animal transformations and other stuff adjacent to that, like the effects of Gloom and Twilight and how, or why, it transforms people into beastly form, and what a beastly form might mean in the greater context. Also a connection to Phantoms that's a bit above my scope, at this time. In its highest form, dragonification is to be subject to the atmosphere of earthly existence, even more deeply so than WE as part godly creatures really understand. It is in essence, stygian and hellish, but also equal to heavenly existence. Ganondorf succumbs to this in a low form as he is left without a source of life and light, and mummification is thus the hell, to dragonificaton's heaven, but both are losing yourself. To the Zonai, this is the only TRUE death, adn that's why it is forbidden, it kicks one out of the cycle of reincarnation, and THAT is why you can "never again be yourself". It is not the light death of reincarnation, but an absolute death upon death. However, a way to escape even this was discovered, and this is reflected in returning Zelda back to human form. For Ganondorf, it was through the timeline split. By the use of Twilight within Light, a creation of a Golden Land was possible, one where a dead spirit may linger even after ALL vessels have been lost. So were you to be captured or executed after interloping on the sacred power, you could fuse the Shadow by the very light it has been cast from, and escape into a new timeline with the Twilight as your corridor into it. This what Ganondorf did in Twilight Princess, as he was banished he would collect his imprisoned body in Sacred Realm, and be reborn in The Great Sea of Wind Waker while appearing to Zant and Agahnim as a godlike spirit. Once his body was sealed underneath the ocean, Ganondorf appears AGAIN in the ending stages of Twilight Princess. The idea that he always viewed WW as a trifle in a fictional timeline, and planned everything so that even not having access to Triforce, he could at least fall back on his schemes around Zant. It gves such a storng impact to every word he says in the final fights and cutscenes of both games. In addition, him appearing though agahnim in LttP would further be is final cry as the Calamity Ganon and the dark dragon , right after pushing through failure both in WW adn TP. Then, once more resurrected by Yuga(!) in LINK (!) between WORLDS (!).

I really, really wish they reveal more backstories for Ganondorf for this timeline. I want him to be more than just an evil muscular man who appears from nowhere demolishing everything in his sight only for his thirst for power.

That's the thing about Ganondorf though, he just IS. There is no grand reason for his evil, he is the embodiment of Demise, the very incarnation of hatred, he is the anathema to the three Goddess' creation. Ganondorf is not a sympathetic character and he never should be, as he is the face of everything good fights and prevails against for all time. Ganondorf is fine as is. Though he does need more screen time being an evil bastard, that I'll agree with...

Not really. He's had many more motives in most previous games. Ganondorf the man had many motives. Ganon, is in fact just evil.

I mean, it's pretty similar to his previous appearances in older games. They don't really give much details other than that he is the King of Gerudos, and that he is power-hungry with intent to take over Hyrule.

I see its been mentioned a couple times in this comment section, but I think there might've been two different subsets of Zonai. There's the ones from the skies that came down and eventually led to Rauru and Mineru staying on the surface. And then theres an offshoot that lived either in the depths or was always on the surface. The ancient hero looks more like that statues in the depths, and you can see the difference between Rauru and these statues if you finish Joshua's statue questline and see the entire plaque at Lookout Landing. You've these little eared flat-haired guys and then there's Rauru with his gaint ears and wild mane and iconic arm right in the middle of all of them. There's also the exteme difference in architecture between the structures in the skies and the ones on the ground. And more than once these two differing architecture designs are seen connected to one another as if they were built together to mask the sky variant (Mineru's sage quest in Faron). It also happens in the Forgotten Temple but still. It's odd but deliberate. Maybe the ground dwellers ended up mixing with the hylians and became the war-like tribe from the Barbarian Armor? Who knows, but there was definitely a divide at some point.

What had confused me about the story was King Rhoam saying the Calamity was created from the Demon King’s transformation into malice, yet Tears of the Kingdom seemed to imply that Calamity Ganon and the Demon King were separate beings. During the Demon King’s transformation into the Demon Dragon, there’s a moment when he looks a lot like the spectral form of Calamity Ganon. I had just assumed that defeating the demon dragon somehow transformed it into malice and sent it far back in time to become the Calamity, which would be why they’re the same but different. That’s a bit of a stretch, though. Your explanation made a lot more sense. When it comes to the rest of the timeline…Ganondorf and the rest of the era of Hyrule’s founding don’t make sense in this game at all. At this point, I’m willing to argue that BotW and TotK aren’t even on the timeline; they’re their own separate thing.

If these games aren't intended to be a reboot, a separate timeline seems the obvious answer. There are already canonical branching timelines, so why should that be the only time a timeline splits? There are enough instances of time travel in the series that the developers can branch things off pretty much anywhere they want.

To be quite honest, it's gotten to the point with me that I don't think Nintendo even cares or concerns themselves over these sorts of things until they HAVE to (ie. making an "official" timeline for an "official" book.) These games are very much the Miyamoto form of storytelling where the gameplay comes first and the story itself is an afterthought - just a vehicle to give the barest of motivation for the player to continue until the end. I think this is most obvious in the fact that Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild DO NOT have ANY writers in the credits. Not a single one. Breath of the Wild had a "script supervisor" and Tears of the Kingdom does not even have that. As much as I love Zeltik's videos, after literal decades of theorycrafting Zelda games, I've gotten to the point where it feels like fans absolutely invent lore where we want to see it. Nintendo does not put nearly as much love and care into maintaining a sense of lore consistency between games at all. It'd do ANYTHING for a single Zelda game to have as much attention to detail as a FromSoft Miyazaki game but I really do not see that ever happening unless Nintendo starts to treat the Story/Lore with as much love and care as the gameplay.

I just think that the descendance of the Zonai and the (re-)founding of Hyrule by Rauru and Sonia plays so far after any/all timelines that they simply assume to be the first (wouldn't have been the first time a Hyrule kingdom fell). I recommend Thinking At Max Volume's video on it (Dragon Break theory video).

I think the Spirit Dragons, evidently being ancient Zonai and similarly named for the 3 Goddesses that created the land of Hyrule, along with the act of Draconification, might also explain just what happened to the Triforce in this era, which seems to have been entirely forgotten about and only persists as hyrulean symbols and crests. My belief is that the Triforce is essentially 3 exceptionally powerful secret stones, with Din, Nayru, and Farore having actually been sort of a precursor to Zonai, who used their "secret stones," so to speak, to create the world of Hyrule, which was left behind as they departed as their newly created world could not exist without its presence. They, or perhaps their Zonai descendents, returned to thee land they created, and unfortunately found the Triforce's very existence caused chaos in the world they founded, many times the land was brought to the brink of destruction by those seeking the golden power, and time itself was split into 3 branches. Because this relic could not be destroyed, it was instead decided the pieces of the Triforce would be consumed in an act of Draconification. This act, would also serve to reunite the branched timelines, would effectively make the Triforce into living dragons, and prevent them from ever being abused or sought after by those with evil ambitions while still preserving its existence so that the land would not decay and crumble as Lorule did

I'm only 11 minutes in, and I gotta say, you're a great storyteller and editor. And artist, too. When Link drew the master sword, I got chills. I've loved your videos for a long time because of how you portray your talents, and because your voice is perfect for narration. I respect your skills in the craft so much, and I hope to be doing something very similar one day, but with novels. And the occasional video game fanfiction. I'm currently writing a BotW one from the perspective of Link's diary.

So in every Zelda game ever made, Zelda has been high in the sky and ganondorf has been deep underground, the reason they both kept reincarnating is because a piece of them has always still existed without anyone knowing and it’s like the worlds were trying to reach equilibrium. I really hope Zelda masters her time powers and can travel with link to the distant past and have adventures with the zonai in future games
