There's also references to single lines of dialogue from past games. The "secret to everybody" line makes an appearance, of course, but the one that jumped out at me was at the end of the questline with Sidon -- he says that as long as darkness lurks in Hyrule, the peace they've been fighting for "could vanish like a bubble on a needle." That line is a direct reference to an inscription from _Link's Awakening,_ in the shrine where the true nature of Koholint Island is spelled out: "To the finder... The Isle of Koholint is but an illusion. Human, monster, sea, sky... a scene on the lid of a sleeper's eye... Awake the Dreamer and Koholint *will vanish much like a bubble on a needle...* Castaway... you should know the truth!" I'm honestly not sure _why_ that specific bit of writing stuck in memory so firmly, but the instant Sidon said those words, I had a "...hang on a second..." moment.
@karanoelle4819
Жыл бұрын
Yup, that Koholint one I recognized IMMEDIATELY. Not to be a snowflake, but as a kid that very scene and music fucked me up mentally. That tune that plays in the "Eastern" Shrine (we all know it's the south of the two) brings back some reeeeeeeeeeally bad juju for me. I also have had that moment burned in my head of the quote vanishing like a bubble on a needle. Called it out immediately on stream, too. Man, MM was the darkest game, but LA was pretty fucked up too in the background.
@Nitrinoxus
Жыл бұрын
@@karanoelle4819 There's elements of cosmic horror in the idea of an entire island, packed full of people living their own lives, being nothing more than the figment of a deity's imagination -- the island _feels_ real, so if it's nothing but a dream, how can you ever be sure that _anything_ is real? Maybe Link himself is just the figment of _another_ being's imagination, and if he awakens his own dreamer, he'll vanish too; maybe we're _all_ the dreams of something beyond our understanding, destined to disappear without a trace when the cosmic alarm clock goes off. It's freaky stuff like that that kept young me awake at night.
@karanoelle4819
Жыл бұрын
@Nitrinoxus That's pretty much what the nightmares were telling him too. "If you wake the Wind Fish, everything will disappear. You, too, are part of his dream." Something like that. It leads to the whole "we live in a simulation" kinda thing. He'll, what if you were the only real person and this is a simulation? You are the only real person, and everyone is programmed so advanced that they are "human". They think they're alive and all that. But then, what makes you know you are real? What if you were programmed to think that? That game, I'm telling you. That game fucked me up as a kid. It's so heavy
@Nitrinoxus
Жыл бұрын
@@karanoelle4819 And it only gets heavier when you revisit it years later, after having written a thesis paper on the inherent realness (or lack thereof) of simulated realities. Not a fun topic to mix with severe depression, I tell ya what. The only thing keeping it from spiraling into existential dread is that, fundamentally, it's a distinction without a difference. A simulated reality within another reality is still _real,_ by virtue of the fact that it _exists_ within the uppermost reality in the form of a simulation; even if you nested simulation inside simulation again and again, so long as at least _one_ reality exists to contain that stack of simulated realities, then the entire pile is as real as the reality hosting the first simulation in the group. Whether any given reality is the _true_ reality ultimately doesn't _matter._

Multiple things about Fi. One, I think everyone who’s seen any of Skyward Sword noticed. Two, it’s also in BOTW. Three, she *is* the sword. She was created as the goddess sword. She was upgraded by the sacred flames in SS, and at the end (I don’t remember for sure here) sealed Demise away at the cost of being sealed in the sword permanently. Also, Link relied solely on Purah’s memory and not forgetting to give it to him. He never was told what was happening, he would’ve just been shot up in the air unknowingly and just die.

@tabletopnephilim4633
Жыл бұрын
Absolute spoilers. Don't read this unless you've at least gotten all of the geoglyphs. Considering this game is supposed to depict the founding of Hyrule and the Imprisoning War, and yet the Ganondorf from that time never died, and therefore never reincarnated, this means in BotW and TotK, there has only ever been one Ganondorf. This makes me think that these two games are an entirely separate timeline from what we know. It's the only thing that makes sense, because if the Imprisoning War from these games and the one from before Skyward Sword are the same war, then how could Ganondorf, or Demise, possibly still be imprisoned by the time of TotK when he's supposed to be destroyed by Link in SS? It simply doesn't add up. Add to that the fact that the Triforce and the golden goddesses barely seem to play any role in these two games at all, and Zelda's divine power supposedly coming from being a descendant of Rauru rather than being a reincarnation of a goddess, and it's clear that BotW wasn't a soft reboot like everyone thought it was, it was a hard reboot. Now, why does there seem to be all these references to previous Zelda games? No clue. It's most likely, with the cycle of the Calamity Ganon, a manifestation of Ganondorf's Malice escaping his imprisonment, repeating itself over tens of thousands of years, that some variation of these adventures may have still happened, just not in the way they did in the games we played. Hell Koholint Island never actually existed, and yet we have Eventide Island, a near perfect copy, although smaller.

- Zelda's torch down the Gloom's Lair, where the Imprisoning Chamber collapsed. - All paragliders have neat little details, my favorite being Skyward Sword's Goddess Fabric showing Zelda's hairbands as part of its tails. - Gleeoks represent the four elements: Fire, Water, Lightning and Wind, and you can see that in their drops when you defeat them, specially the kings. - The Depths outfit is a callback to the Poe Collectors from Ocarina of time, with a single-eye headset and all. The Depths also seem to indicate that these beings became almost gods deep below Hyrule, and you can see that in the sheer size of the monuments/statues where you can talk to them. - We pretty much got confirmation that the three goddess fountains and the massive Hylia statue in the Forgotten temple are the same from Skyward Sword. - Not only Magda. You can see references to the people we met while investigating stables, confirming that her travels around Hyrule were true and she deeply cared about those people. If I were playing the game right now, I could point out to many more. Gosh I love this game.

In the fierce deity trousers are found in an old stump in reminiscence to the beginning of Majora's mask where you fall down a large tree stump.

I think its still Links house, Zelda has just been staying there for her project in town and Link hadn't really been using it being a traveler who rarely stays home. The relationship between the 2 also means that Link probably doesn't mind that she redecorated a bit considering she would actually be staying there.

Got a few more for you: - Have you found the Champion's Leathers yet? Fun little nod to Link to the Past where they're hidden. - Ascend when you're inside the Great Deku Tree where you can shop and sleep with your Korok pals. You'll be treated to a familiar catchphrase that's persisted from the oldest games by who you find. - Soundtrack, obviously, is important to any game, for ambience and mood. But have you closely listened to the music of the temples in the game? The casual player may notice motifs of certain respective regions, but those who played the game prior will be heartened by remembrance of fallen allies.

6:06 Why do you think it bizarre? Link's good friend Kass shared that tune with him in the last game. (For those curious, he does so as part of his teacher's message and in a more full rendition at the start of the Champion's Ballad DLC.)
@ferd617

Well, it is a _bit_ meta. Most of the other ones (though not all of them) are tunes that exist in-world, particularly the ones from Ocarina. It makes sense those are things Link would hum. But, the theme song that only ever plays during the intro sequence to _the game we're currently playing..._ that raises some questions! Does it mean that Link is somehow AWARE that he's in a video game? Has he _always_ known? Is he cognizant of all of the different versions of him that have existed over the franchise's lifespan?
@Getsugaru
Жыл бұрын
@@ferd617 Except, as I said, the song appears in the games in lore itself thanks to Kass playing it for Link. As the game assumes all shrines were completed in Breath of the Wild (including Champion's Ballad if the game detects it on your save file), that means Link heard Kass play the melody in the Song of the Hero. While I can see your argument for it being "a _bit_ meta," but as the tune has shown up in music that the characters can hear as opposed to solely being in the games' soundtracks, the theory you posit is built on a false premise, as each and every tune he hums was as you put it "in-world" in one of the games prior. Really, if any of the melodies Link hums were to serve as the basis of your theory regarding memories from other bearers of the Soul of a Hero, I'd think it'd be the Ballad of the Wind Fish or maybe Saria's Song. The former was sung by a maiden a Link encountered in a sleeping deity's dream-realm while the latter was a song only known to friends of Saria herself and Darunia; the only connection we have to Saria is the Koroks and Grandpa Deku Tree, while Darunia probably didn't pass that song down through the Goron people (though we can't say for sure). ...What we need now is for some KZitemr to do a song-by-song analysis of the lore to see which songs most likely could have been passed down through the ages from previous games. Here's hoping 8-Bit Music Theory is making another Zelda video! XD

A couple corrections: Fi could be heard 'speaking' in _Breath of the Wild_ as well, though only in the flashbacks where Zelda had the sword -- and despite what Luke noted about constant details in these stories, one thing that's conspicuously absent from both _Breath of the Wild_ and _Tears of the Kingdom_ is the Triforce, both as an item and as an icon. Even the Crest of Hyrule lacks the symbol.
