Excellent video, very good information, thank you. 20 years ago Sportsman Guide in the U.S. was selling post war Swedish, and French Zeltbahns for about $10+20 each. Too bad those days are long gone.

I’ve read the theory that 1 guy would rotate out on guard duty…so the 4 person zelt didn’t necessarily need to cram 4 people in there. Idk just one source I read.

I heard this as well allthough it's not completely true. People did go on guard duty but not one in four so sometimes some tents would be full and sometimes not

Hey you were talking about the zelts being different colors on each side, that is intentional, they typically were dull colored for winter and summer
@kurtwk
Жыл бұрын
Good video, sir ! I’ve been binging lately. I also think your recommendations are dead right. Just a brief side note but most reproduction’s colors are pretty close and otherwise good, it’s usually the pattern itself they massively screw up. Right now I have 14 original, Splinter zeltbahns, of which 10 of them are in VERY good condition with strong , unfaded colors. All of them are different shades but Only about 4 of them are similar in colors used, the rest are drastically different like an almost blue green background color, another one is practically yellow. Some of the brown splinters are more gray than brown and some of the dark sides are REALLY dark and subdued, almost appearing as a solid color from several feet away. Not to mention all the reinforcements and plackets are all different shades taken from different bolts of camo cloth. I guess that’s why I have 14 of them, I absolutely love the diversity of colors and shades that original zeltbahns exhibit. You might already know the details I explain anyways 😊 hopefully I didn’t bore you ! … and I said I’d be brief lol

Thank you for this information! I know that there are a lot of variations in german equipment. But sometimes it is easy to forget exactly how much variation there is. I tend to explain something like the norm, while I could focus more on variations. I'll try to improve on that. Thanks for watching 😁

Merry Christmas Where did you bought your blanket? And do you think ex Swiss army blankets are accurate to use?
@dergrenadier
Жыл бұрын
Bought most of my blankets of local second-hand pages. It depends on the model of the ex swiss army blanket if they are usable. I would go for simple colored aabe wool blankets for sure.

cool, thanks. i just bought mine from soldier of fortune but have not fitted it up yet. I like your video's they are very helpful to us new re-enactors and collectors of WW2 german equipment. If you have any suggestions to where i can buy wide fitting low boots as i have tried a size and then 2 sizes bigger than my feet but they all seem to narrow for my wide feet. Thanks ;-)

@@dergrenadier I appreciate the reply, but if you don't mind, I have just one more question. Do you know what is the most common or used German uniform and helmet?
@dergrenadier
Жыл бұрын
@@revolution1423 I don't mind at all! This question is more complicated though. It completely depends on the time period you portray. Roughly decided in early, mid and late war. Any idea what you are going to do?
@revolution1423

@@dergrenadier Oh, I am not necessarily asking because I personally want to but I tunic, just interested in knowing what the most produced gear was. What would a German soldier MOST likely be wearing in terms of tunic and helmet. I'm guessing it would be M40 for both tunic and helmet?
@dergrenadier
Жыл бұрын
@@revolution1423 Well. You could argue that the m40 helmet and tunic were seen a lot througout the war, yes. I guess it depends on the unit a bit. M40 would be a safe bet
