Audio engineer here! Down-firing speakers are common for many laptop-design reasons, but the audio benefit is that you get a free boost of 3db of bass (below 300Hz-ish) from placing speakers right next to flat surfaces (try it with any speaker-even your phone. You get 6dB if you place a speaker in a corner! The ideal would be to have the speakers also port out the top-or have separate tweeters on the top. But, any of those would increase the price.

There is a big reason behind bottom firing speakers - When you place a bottom firing speaker on something like a desk, the desk will direct the audio at you, or at least in your direction + Audio will pass through objects, so the speaker can be heard through the keyboard deck as well, combined effect of both the audio gives a great Audio Boost and a pretty decent Reverb. For people like me who use their laptop on the bed, it is still quite okay too, just that I don't get full quality. And...... Now, to achieve the same results with top firing, they must engineer something like a Boom Box that occupies a lot of space in the chassis and add an extra 3rd or maybe even a 4th speaker and well, is a lot of effort to make and engineer. Just not worth it on budget devices

In return you're getting fantastic gaming experiance with a 120hz refresh rate. Good on them for using a Ryzen cpu, most manufacturers will go with intel just because the average consumer recognizes it better, but ryzen is where the value is at! I bought this laptop from BestBuy two days ago, I gotta say, I'm impressed. I got it for around 1200 dollars there which I know is slightly more than I should've paid but I am in no way complaining. I'm upgrading from an Acer laptop with an i5 3.2 GHz with a GTX 940m so this was a massive leap. I play higher CPU taxing games such as Apex, COD BO3, etc. This laptop has handled everything I threw at it. The only issue I have continuously noticed is the network lag/connection issues with some of my games. This could be because of my mediocre wireless connection or it could be the wifi chip, I plan on replacing it soon anyway considering they aren't all that expensive. I have it hooked up to a monitor so I never even noticed the color dullness in the display so that's not an issue either. Overall I would give it a 9.6/10. Love it.

Asus provides a free bundle of external camera. I do agree that laptops should not be intact on the bezel panel- i mean the chinese just intercepted our internet connection, didn't know how long they had been looking through my webcam from my old asus laptop. I'm glad I just bought a new laptop of gx701 model that way my odds are better when comes to privacy breach.

Maybe pay up for the sleek looking msi gs75 or that beast ge75 for that full latop 2080. Maybe lenovo would be a good deal especially when they get discounted. I was about to pre-order this laptop until I went on lenovos website and saw the y740 for $1369 US but the price still didn't convince me, until I saw a Lenovo promo code for 10% off gaming laptops over $999 so I tried it. The laptop dropped to $1232 USD and made the purchase. What an amazing laptop.

I'm changing my review to - DO NOT BUY. This laptop fails to deliver on the promises it makes. The biggest reason I have is it was extremely laggy when it came to high performance stuff. Even switching tabs between chrome was laggy. I just couldn't fix it, and now I just can't bother. I wanted to love this laptop, but it just doesn't have enough horsepower. Dave2D was right, you really get what you paid for, and that sucks. Just got the ASUS Zephyrus G, 16GB, 120Hz panel from Bestbuy for 950. The device is LIGHT (As light as or even lighter than MSI GS 65, Razer Blade 15, when I checked in store). The battery life is great for a laptop (rated at 8 hours, and seem to come close with general usage) with a relatively powerful external GPU. This high battery life with good GPU is why I bought this (Graphics/Rendering Engineer here). Anything else that has these combined features cost above 1500+. I don't understand why Dave is comparing this to the Lenovo Y740. The battery life of that thing is less than 2 hours. It sucks for any kind of productivity work. This is competing with the Stealth laptops and Aero 15x. Pros: Ryzen 7 3750H (I don't understand why they are comparing it with 6 core CPUs instead of a 4 core one), 16GB, 512 SSD, 1660Ti Max Q, Battery life (6-8), Weight, Price Keyboard is one of the reasons I bought this as well. It's not as great as a Thinkpad keyboard, or even the razer blade 15 keyboard, but it's reasonable, has some good tactile feedback, although more travel would have been nice. Also, doesn't have unusual quirks like the Shift key placement like Razer. Also no numpad means the keypad is relatively centered, although they have added the a vertical strip for the Home, Pg down buttons. Wish this button was on horizontal and on top. Overall, a good keypad for gaming as well as typing IMO. The display IS the biggest let down. It's low contrast and has washed out colors, even though its 120Hz. It feels like a display from a few years ago. The speakers are badly positioned, but let's be real, everyone uses headsets 90% of the time. I don't know whether it's my device but the wifi and bluetooth seems to be shaky. When I'm far from my router the wifi is registering as having only 1 bar, while my phone shows 4 bars. I'm still getting everything setup, so it could be a driver issue. But, I've been watching youtube and browsing comfortably, and using bluetooth earphones and it seems to be generally working well. Overall, I think this laptop cuts corners but it's a great buy for the price. If you can get it for under 1000, you can't get anything else with the same features for that price. It's great for taking around, doing productivity work, and gaming. I will miss the webcam though, when I want to take a Skype call. But, I think my phone can make up for that.

I hoped that Ryzen 7 would be a better CPU to be honest. This laptop had a chance to be a balanced choice for people who want to work and play on the same device. And for that purpose I think it delivers. 1. Performance in games is good 2. Laptop is slim and apart from red logo enough to be taken to the meeting. 3. CPU is dissapoint though if we want to use it professionally. 4. You can charge it via USB C - so you can take 1 charger for phone and laptop, which is alwyas a compact asset. You will not get full performance but for travelling it is great.

However, it has a i7-9750H, 16GB of ram, a RTX 2060 6GB, 1TB SSD, and a 144hz panel w/3ms response time (not exactly the greatest display imo but still doable for what’s included). I’ve tried looking around for laptops that has similar specs but everything is priced $150+. Closest thing I can think of that can compare is the the top spec Lenovo Legion Y740. But I still prefer the GU502 for aesthetics. You should do a review on it.

Okay, I admit, my feelings on this unit are a lot more mixed than I expected. On the one hand, it's a Zephyrus laptop with the same build quality, pretty decent performance, and excellent battery life. On the other hand, they made compromises to the screen (not that surprising), no webcam, and also made some strange choices like a cheap WiFi card half-speed PCIe 3X2 NVMe M.2 slots. Those last couple compromises are really surprising, and personally I wish they hadn't cut the PCIe bandwidth on the M.2 slots or gone with a cheaper WiFi card. Otherwise, this is still an impressive thin and light gaming laptop at a more budget-ish price.
