I think maybe the video is about marriage turned lacklustre and the frustration that come with it. So their actions end up being sort if cathartic and in the end they feel better as it brings the spark back into the marriage. They also realise they put all their materials before love and when they lose them, all that is left is love - hence them feeling better with each other. Just my interpretation.

+Cher L I'd been a big fan of Bjork. I loved her weirdness but it started to irritate me. Like she was forcing herself too much to complicate all the songs and make them not understandable. I really liked how she kept things simple like on Homogenic when every song was a fucking masterpiece. Or Verspertine's Pagan Poetry which was like the rawest song on the record. I agree with you Bjork's voice is way ahead of everyone, but so is Sia's. They are both weird. Both have funny accent. Both don't want to be famous. Both have an incredible range. But Sia is like a pop version of Bjork. More available for everyone else. Not as much alienated. I like Sia more now cause she keeps things to herself too, covers face and private life but she's open to admit that she was a drug addict and she's still so funny and excited. She laughs all the time. She also does something that everyone else doesn't. She always sings live and always chooses the highest note. Not like Rihanna or other artist who just give up and let the choir or backing track do it. Bjork had a lot of badass high notes but she doesn't really sing them live, she just changes a vocal melody (which is creative too) and lowers it. Sia always sings the chorus of Chandelier and Alive and her voice can do pretty much more things and she has more control. She does her vibrato consciously and it's really fast. I would say that only Beyonce is better if it comes to control (Beyonce is half afro so she kind of had more talent in her blood).

honestly the fact that it's a "mixed couple" kinda throws me. Was it meant to be part of the message in any way, or not? Not that either way is negative, but was mainstream entertainment still stubbornly pretending race didn't matter in the early 2000s?

Great song. Love this album. The song is very soulful and tragically beautiful as you say. But the video seems to fit the lyrics to me. "I can nearly guarantee/You'll end up with the boot." "I love you, I do./I only make jokes to distract myself from the truth." Seems more to me that the comical nature of the video comes from the "only make jokes" part of the chorus. That's just me though. ::shrug:: Great video for a great song imho. :)

I have loved this band since 02. This song (tearfully) was always my favorite on the album. However ? Having seen THIS VIDEO for the first time about 2 years ago? I was able to turn what USE TO BE, a sort of dark song with a REGRETTABLE declaration of LOVE, into sort of a : Less painful ( still beautiful ) bitter sweet portrait of the up's and downs of having someone in your life whom you'd never want to be without..

@Berezhnoy I think it's more than that. They basically unburdened themselves from the things that were keeping them from being intimate--they were more concerned with the affluence that came from being married (having two good jobs etc) rather spending time together. Once they rid themselves of the things that pulls them away from each other do they realize that they're still passionate about each other. Their exaggerated anger proves that there's still passion, they have to remember the love.
