California Air Resources Board (CARB) staff are developing statewide zero greenhouse gas emission standards for space and water heaters. These standards seek to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) and smog-forming nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from new space and water heaters sold in the state to help meet California’s climate goals and federal air quality standards. This potential regulation would not limit the use or repair of existing non-zero-emission space or water heaters.
With the support of community co-hosts, in Fall 2024 CARB staff are holding several informal regional listening sessions throughout California, to share information about this potential regulation and hear from the public.
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Climate Action Campaign, co-hosted a virtual listening session with CARB staff. This video contains the presentation delivered by CARB staff. The presentation provided information on the purpose and benefits of potential standards, the regulatory proposal as presented at the May 29, 2024 public workshop, and discussed some common questions about implementation from the perspective of a typical homeowner and renter.
