One thing I would recommend is donating money in someone's name. What they get for Christmas is a card that says how much was donated and where to what cause, they can feel good and someone/something in need gets some help

Thank you for all these ideas! I didn’t know about Nui Organics. I love merino wool clothing. Something I am trying to gift this year to the bakers in my life is homemade vanilla extract. You just need vanilla beans and vodka. My beans have been sitting in vodka for a couple months now and I can transfer them into smaller bottles to gift, and then people don’t have to buy plastic bottles of vanilla extract, and they’ll likely use it up if they enjoy baking. Plus it lasts practically forever!

My “gift guide” is after Thanksgiving I do not order online at all. If i didnt have a gift before then it has to be in store. I do it mostly because I’m a mailman and I do not want to add to a fellow carriers burden. But it also means im not adding to trucks on the road, the products in stores have already had the energy spent on getting them there. Also less packaging delivered to my door as well.

That was a great list 👍👍👍☺️. We are flying to South Africa to see family for the Christmas season, my mom in law has actually listened to our wishes, to not buy us stuff! We have to bring it back and we really don't need more things, so she is taking us to the ballet. My daughter has never been and since Granny was a ballet dancer we thought that it would be a great idea,👍☺️. She will have memories that will last her a lifetime. I will be either making a donation to a children's hospital or I will be giving food items to family members. I am hating going into stores at the moment, the amount of plastic toys on display is freaking me out!!!😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

Soooo about that everly candle wax: about how much does it cost?? I'm super duper broke so I'm making gifts this year. I love making candles from upcycled jars 😊 if it's not too expensive then maybe it's a good option for me to use for my candles No bought gifts this year everyone is getting either a candle or one of my chili pepper plant's babies in an upcycled flower pot 😅

i don't remember cost off the top of my head but it is linked in the blog post for your convinience! you could also probably find some cheap unscented beeswax or soy wax for diy candles! those are a little messier tho and don't include wicks

Thanks for the suggestions/recommendations Emma! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 ..... Additionally, if you receive a gift you don't like or don't have a need for, regifting is always an option!! 😉 ..... One gift Idea I had for this year (not necessarily eco-friendly, but a huge pun factor) involved buying a mini Christmas stocking from the dollar store, and a Kohl's gift card from Walgreens... Needless to say, my sister got a "stocking Full of Kohl's" for Christmas! 😁

My husband and I started using this app called 'Things to get me' where you create a wish list that you can send the link to anyone who asks what you want for Christmas/birthday and they can reserve an item, so it removes it from the list but you won't see who reserved it. I add things as I find them throughout the year in a range of prices.

Ahhh I needed this video!! ❤ I’ve tried looking around for eco-friendly products and companies but it can be so hard to find or determine if something is greenwashed or not. My heart was just like glowing the whole time like the child in me was like “wHAT!? I WANT ALL THE THINGS!” (she means well 😂). Wish I saw this a month or two ago but now I can just put this whole video on my “Presents for Me” list 😅 can’t wait to see the other videos in this series!!

I live in Australia, and here it is very uncommon to find tampons with applicators. We just use our clean fingers and wash our hands afterwards. I find it very interesting that in America it is standard to use a single applicator for each tampon - for most people!

I'm actually really proud of myself for this, but because I've been asking for sustainable swaps as gifts for the past few years, several of my friends have started asking for similar swaps as gifts as well, which makes it easier for all of us to be more sustainable because these purchases are more expensive than what we would buy for ourselves! Just kinda wanted to share because I wanted to tell someone but you can ignore me haha

I also get migraines but one of my triggers is sound, aka I'm rather afraid of the sound that the electric lighters make. Are there other eco options than a rechargeable lighter?
@taniacarreira1990

Maybe matches would be the best option for you. Not the most eco-friendly but better than any other option that I know of, and you can compost them after use (if the head is completely burned since it contains sulphur most of the time) ☺️
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist

they don't make a sound from my experience and i have very sensitve ears. your other option could be lighters that can be refilled with propane/butane vs single-use capsules. I suggest google as i have nver used this personally

im not sure if you've seen some of the reviews for Lomi but I think its a pretty bad product and doesn't offset the amount of electricity it uses. the video I watched was called "Lomi: Busted" by Thunderf00t and its part comedic, part informative. sadly its another greenwashing scam product. I really wish people would just not invent these products that end up being worse for the environment and preying upon people who just want to do better :/

i don't think it is! i need to do a deep dive myself, but it uses way less energy than standard house appliances. Meaning it uses significantly less energy that the amount of methane that would be emitted by food waste. I don't think it's THE solution to food waste, but until everyone has a yard or until every town has commercial composting,it is a great solution. Belive me, I would not promote a greenwashed product :)
