In Mahayana Buddhism, there is a precept on pet ownership, because this can potentially perpetuate attachment and suffering, both for the owner and the animal. Afterall, we want to leave the suffering of Samsara. But some Buddhists believe caring for pets is an expression of compassion and responsibility. Ultimately, whether or not to have a pet is your personal choice. Best wishes, Amitabha. 🙏🏻
