This concert took place in 2000. Mariya was 45 years old at the time. In fact, she had almost no chance to sing this song after the recording until this concert, as Plastic Love was included in the album VARIETY released in 1984, but she had been inactive since around 1982, except for writing songs, and this was her first live performance under her own name in 18 years. I went to the Osaka Castle Hall venue on the same tour and was surprised by her steady singing, which was hard to believe that she had not sung in front of people for almost 18 years. Perhaps it was the band that made the performance feel relaxed after so many gigs. This is because the backing band is the same as the members of Tatsuro Yamashita's recording and live tours in the 1990s, and they have worked together on many recordings and live performances together. There are only two guitarists in the band, and Tatsuro has to play precise rhythm guitar in addition to his vocals. Tatsuro once said that the only other main vocalist in Japan to play guitar besides himself was Kaname Nemoto of Stardust Review. Incidentally, Hidefumi Toki, a saxophonist, is originally a jazz player, but at Tatsuro's request he accompanied Tatsuro on his recordings and tours. Regrettably, he passed away in 2021. Incidentally, his daughter, Asako Toki, is also a wonderful musician. (Random Girl kzitem.info/news/bejne/w4h9nW2QcnWnhmU) Drummer Jun Aoyama is a top-notch studio musician and has played drums on many hit songs in Japan. He died young at the age of 56. One of his sons, Hideki Aoyama, is also active as a studio musician and appeared on tour as a drummer in the backing band (Kami Band) when BABYMETAL broke through overseas. Guitarist Yoshiyuki Sahashi is also a well-known studio musician and has played guitar on many hit songs. The first guitar intro to Kazumasa Oda's 'Love Story Suddenly' is very famous and was played by Yoshiyuki Sahashi. He married actress Takako Matsu, whom he met through his musical activities. Takako Matsu was born into a family of Kabuki actors and has performed on the Kabuki stage, but since the age of 17 she has appeared in many TV dramas, films and plays and is a singer with hit songs. As the Japanese voice of Elsa in the Disney film Frozen, she also sang a song in the play and appeared at the US Academy Awards. A version of the song sung by Tatsuro with the same band as this live performance was included in Tatsuro's live song collection 'Joy', released in 1989, and it is amazing how Tatsuro understood the quality of this song 30 years before it became a KZitem buzzword, and sang his own cover of the song, showing his discernment. He doesn't stream the song, so it may be a little difficult to listen to, but why not listen to Tatsuro singing the song without changing the key of the original? After this show, Mariya has performed as a guest in several other shows, but only in 2010 and 2014, and her planned tour in 2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19. Mariya spent a year as an exchange student in Illinois when she was in high school, but other than that, she must not have any long-term experience of living in an English-speaking country, but as you say, she is often told that her pronunciation is natural. Tatsuro's English lyrics are written by an American songwriter, Alan O'Day, who has been advised by Mariya-san on pronunciation during recording. Longer. If it helps you to enjoy the live video I am happy.

Thank you very much for this information. We are a big fan of Tatsuro and Maria. We've been listening to their music after we reacted to their songs. Regards: NielsensTV
Thanks for responding so quickly! Sending a BIG hug to both of you! Mrs. Nielsen was dancing as usual, and I didn’t miss Mr. Nielsen's upper body and head dancing a bit as well😊 As someone already commented, that is a soprano saxophone, not a clarinet. Hidefumi Toki (1950-2021) was a famous Japanese saxophonist, best known for his career as a band member of Tatsuro Yamashita. His daughter, Asako Toki, is a wonderful singer and I would like to introduce her to you someday. By the way, my name is "love spitz 1987→". If you have time, please come back to Japanese music again. I'll be waiting for you!
