As a westerner hearing Zhou Enlai (who we know for being essentially like a stereotypical Confucian mandarin. That is to say very intelligent, level headed and reserved) giving a passionate speech and raising his voice seems very unusual. We know him for his incredible diplomacy work (one of the strongest voices in favour of the Nixon meeting) with Nixon and Kissinger such as the Shanghai communique, which would eventually come to define a whole new world order. So it’s easy to forget that just like every other one of the CCP leaders of his generation, he was forged by the fire of revolution. I find this footage to be incredibly interesting

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do to survive, and in that context I thought he was pretty restrained...of course, 1966 was pretty early and it wasn't yet a contest of who could get the most unhinged in the moment.

Mao Zedong thought transcends time and space. Mao Zedong is the greatest proletarian genius of the modern era. Mao Zedong thought is the sun that forever shines. Without Mao Zedong, there is no new China. Sailing the seas depends on the great helmsman, Chairman Mao. We will thoroughly uproot and purge all rightists, capitalist roaders, reactionaries, counter-revolutionaries, imperialists and their running dogs and anyone else who opposes the great Mao Zedong thought. Long live the communist party, long live Mao Zedong thought, a thousand years of Mao Zedong thought!!
@@gent88ut ceremony is the prime place of faith. Not an organized faith, book, nor building. This revolution imitated these virtues but put them under a huge veil
