Dr Zhongchi Liu received her B.S. from Wuhan University, China and PhD. from Harvard University, USA. She is currently a Professor at the Dept. of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, University of Maryland at College Park, USA.
Dr Liu's research has been primarily focused on plant reproduction using diploid wild strawberry Fragaria vesca and Arabidopsis thaliana as models. Her work contributed to several important genetic and genomic resources for the wild strawberry including morphological description of flower and fruit development, extensive transcriptome data made available through the Strawberry eFB Browser-BAR website, several genome assemblies and annotations of wild strawberry accessions, and CRISPR-Cas9 vectors for genome editing. Through mutagenesis and CRISPR, her lab identified several key regulators of fruit and runner development.
Dr Liu has published over 100 peered reviewed articles in high impact journals such as Nature Communications, PNAS, Plant Cell, Plant Physiology, and Horticulture Research.
