In this video, I am making Zlebye - Awamat a Lebanese sweet made by Lebanese Christians celebrating the baptism of Jesus on January 6 of each year. I remember as a child my mother making this traditional sweet, she would fry it twice to make it more crispy, but I could not wait and would it eat it before she fried it the second time.
Ingredients to make the dough:
- I cup rice to boil, to use the rice liquid
- 1 and half cups rice liquid
- 2 cups plain flour
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 2 tablespoon white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon corn flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon orange flower water
- 5 tablespoon canola oil
- glad wrap
- towel
Ingredients to make the syrup:
- 1 and half cups white sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon squeezed lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon orange flower water
Frying:
Deep Pot or wok
- 2 cups canola oil
- medium sized freezer bags
- clean scissors
- Strainer bowl
- Strainer spoon
