Thank You Sir, I appreciate the feedback, trying to figure this out. This video does not show the full context but I came close to putting a knucklehead to sleep at that train station.

Thanks Mark. I have an F3 and bought an AT875r and was quite disappointed with it, as it didn't have much range at all. You needed to be right up in the sound source to record anything meaningful, which kinda defeats the point of a shotgun at distance. Funnily enough I tried it with my H6 and it was a totally different experience. It had loads of gain and performed exactly how I hoped it would with the F3. The signal with the F3 was really really low, but with the H6 it was peaking with gain set to 4 !! Checked all settings on the F3 and it was all OK. Phantom was on and same as the H6, but for some reason the F3 and the AT 875r never got on with each other unless it was really close-up Foley type of work.

Thanks for the feedback. I am sorry the A875r did not work out, the reviews are pretty solid. When connect my deity to the f3 it picks up everything. But being that close to the source for sure is not good, but what is odd is it worked great on the H6

Great video mark. Cheers for this. Most of my recordings currently are ambient which are great fun, but sometimes you really want to try and focus on a specific sound whilst out in the field. I'm looking for some sort of shotgun mic for focusing in on sounds better and this may just be the one.

Thanks for the feedback, and I 100% agree with sometimes wanting or needing to focus on a specific sound source. I do not have a proper space to record the best sounds so my bedroom closet is what I use because the clothes and carpet absorb any sound reflection. I can say with this setup I probably could record a fly farting if I wanted to. Cheers my friend and happy creating.

Hey, nice video. I've just bought Zoom F3 and looking for an inspiration) I am awaiting currently the SE8 stereo pair to record the acoustic guitar sound. How would you compare the XLR-based microphone versus the wireless mics , like DJI Mic 2 setup? Like, I think the XLR-based mics should give better sound, overall?

Thanks for taking a moment to provide feedback. The F3 paired with those SE8 mics should be a killer combo for Acoustic guitar. I have the Rode Wireless Pro mics and they are great for recording voices when attached to the person or with a lav, and I have recorded some sound effects with them but they are NOT even remotely close to what the sounds I can record with the F3 and my XLR mic. The pre-amps in the F3 are really good.

It's a great little field recorder. Its small size will amaze you and Zoom juiced it up with some powerful preamps. Catch it on sale if you can, that's what I did to keep a little bread in my pocket.

Bro, I had no idea how much city you can cover on one of these things. Camera bag loaded down with gear and you can boot scoot all around town.
