I have an older Zoom H2 and it has been great on everything. From placing it on the table in a bar to record a band to clamping it to the side of the sound tent at live outdoor shows and recording live weather and animal/bug sounds. (Is not intended to be waterproof, won't work) Simple enough to use for song ideas while car travel good enough mics for acc guitar and voice recordings. I'm sure the H1N is as good or better. Years ago I swore by a walkman stereo cassette recorder for band practice drop and play essential recordings this is the logical modern replacement.

I don't think you need any specific settings. Just make sure the gain dial is set so the noise of the siren is just barely reaching -12dB on the recorder and I always like to set the audio quality to 48k and 16 bit. That should be high enough quality for most situations. Hope that helps!

Can you help me out? What if I want to record music and transfer the mp3 to my laptop? Do I need a SDcard reader or how do I transfer the recording?
@JakeBorowski15

Some laptops and computers already have a micro SD card reader built in. However if you don't have that then you should at least have an SD card reader on your computer/laptop so I'd say to buy an SD card adapter. It's much cheaper and functions the same.
@wbishop1330

You should be able to transfer through the USB cable, instead of taking out the SD card. I have the older version H1 and thats how I transfer recordings to my PC. Nice kid, but woefully inexperienced and lacking information, including, without limitation, not knowing what the Line-In is for ... while it can be for a microphone, it is usually a cabled audio input, such as prerecorded music from a cell phone or portable audio player. Telling us this is the only one you have ever used is a big give away. Saying something is probably the case, clearly indicates you do not really know. Narration could be better scripted. Suggestion: instead of saying, The dimensions are MxMxM, you could skip the intro phrase and just say the unit is mxmxm. Small point, but it makes the narration smoother and less repetitious ... sorta like dropping the phrase, "This book is about..." from a book report, just tell us without the introductory bit and it moves along so much faster. Judicious editing would make this a 4-5 minute video, not a 9 minute show. You will come off more professional and knowledgeable. Just saying. I think you can do much better. JR
