Zoom's mini-sized, square multi effects units have had many incarnations within the basic design parameters. Here are a few we might have forgotten about.
If I could get my hands on a good 505, I'd definitely get one again (and will be my 3rd). I currently settled with a G2.1u (2nd one) after selling my G1Next. I would have gotten a BOSS ME50 or ME80 but I feel at home with ZOOM products.

3:38 ''downgrade in sound quality'' This statement could use a detailed explanation. Are the Factory Presets identical to the G2?
@bikersoncall
19 күн бұрын
In case there are G2 fans out there, a couple of years ago, I finally realized since the manual said nothing about it, that there is logic to the individual factory-preset locations; Eg 00 has shared features with 10 20, and 30 , 01 , 11 21 31 , all similar with flavor changes, as goes for the rest of the patches. Once I realized this, it became a game changer, for years I hated the layout, cause I didn't know there was any logic to it. A good alternate to the design would also be to group all cleans in the first 10, crunch in 2nd 10, distortions in 3rd set, and harmonizer, tremolo, space elephants etc in the final 4th bank of the the 40 factory presets, this would make sense for all processors as well imv.

Anyone; Are the Factory Presets identical to the G2? Regarding the Control jack for both models, can you bank up and down using an external pedal, if so, is it self explanatory or do you need to set it up somehow other than just plug and go.

I knew a guy in 1990 who was friends with the developers of the first Zoom effects box. He got me one before they were released, and it was much smaller than the 505, etc. It was the size of a boss stomp box, and had buttons, not foot switches. I don’t remember the model number of it, but I’ve never seen another one. This video reminded me of it. Good video as usual!

Man....these take me back. Spent time with almost every zoom multi made before 2010. Like most Multis, the effects were hit or miss but zoom always had decent modulation and pretty great delay/reverbs. Compared to effects these days these old zoom boards might sound harsh and crappy...but they were always reliable, easy to use and most importantly tons of fun.

Actually you raise a good point there about Multi-effects these days. I think that the drive sounds and modelling have got better, but the delays and modulations are often not as good. I have had a 2007 G2.1u on my board forever. It takes the place of 10 additional pedals on my board including tuner, eq, compressor, noise gate, a second wah, my delays, and a couple of others I don't use enough to justify discreet pedals taking up additional space on my board like trem, chorus, octave etc. It's such a part of my sound I picked up a used one on ebay as a backup. It's easy to program for an old dude like me, built like a tank, and has never let me down!

I used the 505 as an "always on" reverb pedal for my mesa boogie subway rocket amp. It was reliable and provided nice hall reverb effects. The modulation effects were cool, but I wasn't into chorus and flange much then so I can't recall how great they were. Now I love me some shimmer. I've mentioned this before but I was always put off by the octave effects. There would be a slight delay between the original note and the octave notes which was a little distracting. Just a few milliseconds but enough to notice. Most multi Fx pedals had this issue. I don't know if its been fixed

@@MrSeeker42 Hmm if that’s the sound you’re after then there’s there’s one problem - the chorus effect on Line 6 units is very over-powered. Even at minimum it sounds kind of crass. A real shame. @@gearfacts I understand what you mean about the Chorus. I'm not crazy about Line 6 "wet" effects at all. Forget the wet fx. But the dry fx are excellent. The Pod 2 is the only all-rounder unit I have heard NOT geared for metalheads or numetalheads. Its 90% classic rock sounds with a Shred and Soldano effect at the end of dial for the metal fan boys but that's only 5% of the sounds! The rest is Tom Petty, Bryan Adams, I hear Journey, Southern Rock/Mellencamp, Americana...not to mention all the factory patches sound great and are usable right out of the box. I would use the wet fx from the Br-600 or my Boss dr-880. Wet Fx Problem solved.
