Oh good golly gosh god your art style is adorbs, perfect, sublime, MAGNIFIQUE!!!!!!!! Like zootopia. And... The thing I love about Zootopia's writing is how accurate it portrays the foundations for prejudice. We come to have flight or fight responses built into us so solidly that it becomes background noise and we end up trying to treat a symptom instead of finding a source and curing it. Judy Hopps was given a reason to hate foxes (And yes, she did hate them), the same as Gideon probably had good reason to hate prey and on an on. It's not an irrational thing. It's unfortunately a logical progression of thought. And that's what makes it so incredibly hard to overcome. Hell, the song Try Everything even feels like it's acknowledging that being open and accepting is difficult. It's fraught with awkwardness. It realizes that and shrugs it off with a willingness to go forward, and fail how ever many times to get it right.

I remember reading some of the info on the movie as it was being, despite trying not to spoil myself, and the whole transformation of the story was fascinating. There was a version where the predators wore shock collars, there was one where it was more like a furry version of Chinatown and so on. I really want there to be more of it for the world alone. My personal favorite animated movie is Animalympics and one of the reasons I love it is because they came up with a world that's very similar to Zootopias. Another small thing I realised like 20 minutes after seeing the movie was why there were no cats, domesticated dogs and so forth. Then it hit me - no humans, no domesticated animals X3> I want the artbook for this movie!

The crowds are likely not all hand animated. This is what I read on Blue Sky Studios website about how they created animated crowds: "Since we are dealing with large numbers of characters, it would be impossible to hand animate each one. Instead, we create simulations to drive the actions of the characters. The simulations define the dynamics and behavior of how the different characters should interact. We might create a particle simulation that defines physical forces, constraints, and rules that guide how the characters behave. Then each character's animation cycle is synced to each particle. We can build fuzzy logic brains for the crowd characters to allow them see, hear, and feel - so they can interact with other crowd characters and their environment on their own."

I have to say that I was thrilled overall by Zootopia. The amazing animation was one thing, but this movie actually made me feel like an emotional rollercoaster, something which I can't say more than a few others have ever done for me. Although I must say, the first 1/4 or so of the movie really just seemed to be flat exposition, and I could tell that it mustn't have been the original storyline just because it felt kind of flip-floppity. Or should I say hip-hoppity in the case of Judy. Later in the movie, I was a little surprised that it was actually becoming an anti-discrimination lesson, something that I don't think Disney has included as for it to be obvious in any previous films. What really got me was when I thought the movie was over, and then BAM!, you get confounded with a whole new story within the main plot. Also, I must pass my regrets to the animators which surely must have perished after finishing the leagues of crowd shots between character dialogue. Finally, but trying to keep spoilers to a minimum, I was kind of jolted by Judy's scream during the one scene towards the end. I didn't expect that at all from Disney and it also made a cliffhanger of epic proportions as to "What the hell just happened?" I recommend watching Zootopia to those who have not yet done so. It is amazing and possibly the best computer animation that Disney has ever created, and I hope that there will be a sequel.

I recently discovered (or rediscovered I suppose you could say) your channel and work and I've found myself watching episode after episode and animation after animation. I love the way you speak, the intonation and the way you put just enough emphasis and feeling into your words. I love how you vary the background music to suit the message you're trying to get through and to set the mood, and I love how what you say feel genuine. And of course your character is adorable, and the way you animate her, and the various poses you choose to go with what you say is super adorable! That's sort of a common denominator for your work , not only this but for everything, it's genuine and it's evident you have tons of fun making it, which in turn makes it tons of fun to watch! I think you could make anything fun with your animations and talking, and that's a very impressive skill to say the least! And about the topic at hand, I agree with you on so many points regarding Zootopia! The amount of work that went into it is astonishing. The animators were given so much freedom, and it shows in everything they did, and it also shows how important it is to communicate and discuss your animations with someone. Zootopia is not the work of one person, it's the collaborate work of many people and they, together, achieved all of the amazing world and beauty Zootopia, the world and its characters are. They too had fun doing the movie, and much like your animations really, it shows when an animator has fun and is enjoying what they're making ^^

As far as animation goes, I think Zootopia is the BEST 3D animated Disney movie. I was more than blown away. And the story covers so many societal topics that will stand the test of time, discrimination aside. I haven't been so enamored and enthralled with such a story since I saw the first 10 minutes of UP (and before UP, I couldn't say). This is the first movie in my life I want to see in theaters again!

@nickybuttons6443

The prefix 'Zoo' generally refers to animals or otherwise nonhuman creatures. 'Zoophobia' is the fear of animals as its a combination of the prefix Zoo (animal) and the word Phobia (fear). So by calling something Zootopia it implies that its a society with animals.
@Yu-Yu-Shore

+Gary Oak Pretty sure Butter Cream wasn't just referring to the two words, but the two stories. Vivienne Medrano's "Zoophobia" is a webcomic involving(, among other things,) a large city divided into multiple districts with distinct environments, where many different races( including anthropomorphized animals) can live together. And Zoophobia existed years before Zootopia was even announced, so it's not a reference, merely a coincidence.

And just thinking about that makes me exited.

Having just seen Zootopia yesterday, I think it was jaw-droppingly gorgeous animation (I especially took notice of the rain and wind effects), but personally I thought the story was a little... cliche? I did go into it after watching the YMS analysis of it, so maybe I was a bit biased.

***** I don't think you should feel bad; it's a fantastic movie by many accounts. However, I also just recently rewatched How to Train Your Dragon, which brought me to tears three separate times over the course of the movie, whereas the most I felt during Zootopia was during the scenes with Mrs. Otter (I forget her name), and those go by too quickly to be really affecting, in my opinion.

The whole bad art mixed with great story definitely makes me think of Mob Psycho 100. Despite the fact that the art can look rather flimsy at points, and the fact that the main character designs are simplistic at best, the story and characters absolutely shine and are full of great emotion, comedy, and storytelling. The issues with the art are resolved in the anime, which has amazing art and animation, but the anime only has 12 episodes and only encompasses the first couple of arcs. If I had to choose between only seeing one or the other, I'd definitely choose the manga, simply because there's just so much more story to be enjoyed, despite the scribbly art style.

I've watched this movie with beautiful art, but the story is just so boring, I can't seem to remember the name, but I remember the story. So basicly there's this bird egg and it falls out of it's nest and a ladybug finds the egg and takes it in to look after it and stuff. and there's a skip and then it's like 5 years later and the yellow bird is shouting insults at the lady bug for practice to protect himself I guess... But basicly, he finds this family of other birds and they have to make it to Africa for some reason... Yeah, what happened before they got to Africa I won't even waste my time with it.

Absolutely loved this movie! Tried to get the software they used to make it, but found out that Disney used their own proprietary program and utilized a fairly new lighting engine to cope with the rendering issues (due to light bouncing off of objects, especially the fur). The way the engine is suppossed to work is rather than traditionally creating a light source and rendering all the different ways the light acts upon the environment; the light instead, is only rendered along the path the camera is pointing (basically the program calculates where light would enter in through the camera lens, and only renders the light that the camera view can see, resulting in better processing speeds) [The reason for this was suppossedly difficulties in animating the movie Bolt. They had some issues with fur and it caused no undue amout of frustration.] Both require so much info and processing power that the databanks to store all the information were built on site with the software incorporated into it (which to me sounded pretty wierd, i still don't believe i read that right to this day. Perhaps i got some info wrong? Anyway...) After that, it gets confusing, but from what I understood, there is so much involved in it that even the most modern desktops would have trouble running it. Ergo, no program or to create your own carboncopy Zootopia. You can get close using Autodesk and other programs, but Disney doesn't release Presto to the public (last I checked anyway). Gotta find another program for animating the models. Gotta say tho, I love Loftis' drawing style!

The movie was fun, but nothing I hadn't seen before though. I would critique how they portrayed racism, as there is an actual reason for the bias, as the "night howler" narcotics shown in the movie clearly demonstrated a reason to fear predators. I think if the drug was used with more prey animals, showing the same level of danger, it could have had more impact, but that might just be my cynical side talking. Who knows?

It is troubling because How we learn to behave in society is Learned. How do you react when you see a toddler throwing a tantrum in the store, talking to loud, or crying? Well if you are the parent of that child then the last thing you need is a bunch of cynicism thrown your way from others who choose to be judgmental instead of supportive. Yippity yappity To the author of this video, if you are going to review a FAMILY FILM and refer to the target audience in a derogatory way expect some like wise feedback. Children deserve more respect than they are often given. If they are excited they have a right to express that. If they are sad they have the right to express that as well without regard to your comfort. Self Control is learned and it is easier done with a supportive public.

Panela Leung Alright, I understand what your saying now and I agree that children shouldnt have as much aggression thrown their way as adults for just having fun, especially in a place where they are expected to be. However even I would find it annoying if they were being especially irritating. I can put up with children being children but I've got my limits.

+Gary Oak Hi Gary! I completely agree. There is no free pass to absent minded parenting. But oh how it irritates me when people perpetrating this attitude that is so common most people think it's ok. And in the context of this video, kids are supposed to have fun at the movies.

Zootopia has good writing? I consider that a challenge. fyi "writing" and "story" are not interchangeable terms.

The way I look at the society of Zootopia is this. Yes, like many things; the city and its residents are flawed. But if a group can find common ground to focus on, despite these flaws. Some semblance of a peaceful community could be possible. (minor spoiler ahead, beware) Heck, Judy makes friends with a "notorious" crime boss and becomes the Godmother to his future grandchild. I do believe Homer Simpson said it best with the following quote. Some of us don't eat pork, some of us don't eat shellfish. But ALL of us love chicken

Be careful with your "KZitem Fair Use" filters. DrWolf got a channel strike for having footage that was altered (flipped) in a way that made it look like he was deliberately avoiding copyright infringement detection. He talks about it on his channel.
