@@studiobeamingAnd Mihawk is among the non-devil fruit users, as far as we know. That is just a glimpse of the power ceiling of this story. It gets close to early dragonball z(saiyan saga) in terms of base strength(no powers, just raw battle strength). And bounties are a mix of 2 things, yes they are power levels, but infamy is also involved. You could be weak with a high bounty if you are a danger in some other way or have done something horrendous. And they could be underestimates, if the character is strong but has kept their heat down.

In the world One Piece takes place in there are regular human beings who are born 12 feet tall who can be beaten in a fight by a person who is only 6 feet tall. No powers involved. Thats simply because the power structured is based on a persons will and dedication and training and talent. Its also important to remember that they are still only in the East Blue, this isnt even the Grand Line where the powerful people go to search for treasure.

Aw, wish the Garp and Koby convo wasn't cut out. It's actually pretty important for The Larger Picture reasons. Garp states that he's turned down the Fleet Admiralcy numerous times because otherwise "[he'd] have to do things THEIR way. [He'd] lose [his] freedom." As for "they" are, we don't know yet. In a way, Garp is very much like Luffy, only he's seeking freedom within the paradigm of the Marines, whereas Luffy seeks it through Piracy. If you look back on episodes 2, 3, and 4, once Garp finds out that the Straw Hat Pirate is Luffy, you'll notice he starts to use terms like "consequences for their actions" and "firm hand to put them back in their place" which start to sounds like an old school, hardass parent/grandparent is lecturing you. Also even though DB and One Piece are shonen series, DB is a battle shonen, and One Piece is an adventure shonen. Battle Shonen's meat and potatoes are the technical moment to moment fights, and the story is dressing to serve that end. One Piece's meat and potatoes are the world building and the story, and the fights are more like battles of emotions and ideas for a story arc building up to catharsis.

Mihawk was a brutal, but necessary wake-up call for Zoro (and the crew), because he was the first manifestation of the dangers awaiting them at the Grand Line. Zoro hunted ,regular' pirates his whole life, but he never met an adversary quite like this. Mihawk spared him, because despite everything, Mosshead showed resillience and skill, which just needed more polishing. It takes a great swordsman to know a great swordsman, and that's what happened here. Mihawk also sees potential in Luffy, who pursues his goal of reaching the Grand Line and following Gol.D Roger's footsteps. Brilliant set-up.

Bounty reveals like that are VERY EXCITING 💪💪😁😁 You were right about One Piece being Shonen. Series' like Dragon Ball, Naruto and Bleach are considered Battle Shonens, while One Piece is an Adventure Shonen with Battle Shonen elements Bounties are certainly a way of reading a character's power level, but it's a bit ambiguous because characters can have inflated bounties for simply being ruthless and harming civilians, or being a threat to the World Government in other ways, like knowing about things the World Government doesn't want people to know about... 🤐etc etc

A non spoilery manga info, the pirate Mihawk beat in his introduction, Don Krieg, is actually the big boss of the Baratie arc in the manga and the guy Sanji fed, Gin, was the strongest member of his crew, they had to cut some stuff for the LA. I posted this in another video but I’ll repost it here concerning Zoro being first mate. Zoro is first mate based on who Luffy recruited first. Traditionally whoever the captain picks as first recruit is also the defacto vice captain or second in command. Now both he and Nami kept telling Luffy they are not a crew in the first episode, however by the second episode when Zoro was tied up by Buggy’s henchman, Zoro low key started accepting Luffy as his Captain when he told the henchman that he did not need to believe in Luffy because Luffy already believes in himself and that Luffy was starting to rub off on him. Nami heard all that but she was not yet on board as being a crew member and you will just have to keep on watching to find out why. Now the live action actually called out Zoro as first mate and it was Nami who said it. This is kinda important because I don’t think the manga or anime ever officially stated who was the first mate and second leader of the Strawhats. Most people could already figure it out based on watching the episodes of the anime. However, there has been some debate by some fans whether Zoro or Nami is the second leader. Since Oda himself gave the ok for the live action scripts, we can naturally conclude the second leader is really Zoro. Nami is more likely the Quartermaster of the crew and the third in charge of the Strawhats.
@bluelight17
11 ай бұрын
Oda in the sbs always said all the strawhats are equals in the crew though, and others took the lead when necessary, over Zoro or Nami. I don't think the first mate thing in the LA is meant to be taken as manga canon, especially when they changed other stuff too and characters traits and attitudes (btw i wouldn't care if Oda officially said Zoro was second in command, i don't really care who's the one, if there is one, just i don't think the LA made that part manga canon).
@lastsunofkrypton7950
11 ай бұрын
@@bluelight17it is certainly debatable. But yes, the argument can be made that there is no “first recruit” in the manga or anime. However it is for certain here in the live action retelling there is one and it is Zoro. And Oda gave the ok for it to be said by Nami who many fans for years thought was the second in command. Whether this applies to the manga, again, is debatable since Oda never officially said so in the manga but still approved the scripts.
@bluelight17

@@lastsunofkrypton7950 i agree it's probably canon for the LA, or at least that's how LA Nami saw it, it's just that i wouldn't say that ends the debate for the manga. For the LA Oda also approved (or at least accepted) Sanji offering wine to people who threw food on the ground instead of beating them up immediately, Nami stealing from Kaya and her comments about rich people, Luffy esitating over Zoro fighting Mihawk...it's just a different canon.

I think I remember some characters later on point out that zoro is 1st in command, and he certainly acts like it during Water 7, but as with so many dynamics, it's more based on if the need arises than actual hierarchy. just like luffy is usually not acting as captain, that is just not how this crew rolls. Live action goes out of its way to point out things left unsaid in the manga, like usopp and kaya, probably due to limited time. It's probably also to show the deep loyalty between luffy and zoro, that is shown in the manga and anime, but left out due to time restrains (I guess) in the LA.

The bounties work almost like what you said about your power determining your bounty. But bounty isn’t *just* determined by power. It’s about your achievements. There are characters with high bounties but are weak, and characters with low bounties, despite being strong. So bounties are a good way to know if a character is strong, but don’t rely entirely on them.

You can have the heaviest man in the world throw a punch but it wouldn't be as devestating as the punch from a world champion boxer; because skill unleashes the potential for power. Zoro specifically states in one of his first fights in the manga that there is a difference between wielding 3 swords and practicing 3 sword style. He does get stronger when he puts the third sword in his mouth, but it's just because it allows him to use his most powerful techniques in the sword style he's trained with, not because of any sort of magical effect or superpower. Keep in mind that MOST of what people do with their powers is just raw strength. Luffy's only ability is that he's made of rubber: he doesn't get super strength from it, so the only reason he can stretch his arm several meters out is because he's swinging his arm hard enough that the force can stretch a rubber band the thickness of his arm that far, and his body just happens to be able accommodate that. There are other things that are just pure cartoon logic: Luffy blowing himself up like a balloon sometimes makes him soft and bouncy so he can reflect cannonballs, and sometimes he blows himself up big and hits harder because bigger fist = stronger punch. One Piece isn't a cartoon because of the medium it was originally created in, it's a cartoon because it runs on Looney Toons logic, just with serious worldbuilding and fantasy lore.
