excellent story. one of my relatives was a Zouaves soldier from NY City. He was a NYC fireman who was one of the first groups to volunteer.

Thank you. Lately, it seems I've had ancestors at most of the places you've visited. My ancestor, Thomas Morrell, was in the 15th AL Regiment. The ground you were walking is a shared memory in so many family stories. To see it and have it brought to light shows how brave the soldiers were on both sides. Are we that brave today?

Even though some were able to leave the field in one piece, they all left with inures mentally. God bless them to have to live with what they witnessed.
