Shona is not a language or tribe ,it is the name given to the people related to the stone building culture in the region. So history books ( south african text books) deal with the people by saying proto -shona. these proto shona are vhenda , sotho ,kalanga ,karanga ,lozwi , rozvi ,torwa , ndau ,budja ,korekore , zezuru , manyika , etc. Shona speaks more to descent than the identity of tribe or language . you facts are mixed with error and shot sightedness. remember the ancestors said vuma balanda - . Shona must really not be used to identify a languege , it is an old nation with many tribes ,langueges and haritage.

This is all nonsense. Its a creative tale , not borne by facts. To start with Robert Moffat never directed Mzilikazi of where to settle, only because Moffatt never ventured beyond what is Botswana until MZilikazi had settled in Matebeleland.. Why give the white man credit (as irony would have it his son conned Lobengula into signing a concession which saw the demise of the Matebele State). . The fact is Mzilikazi was directed by a few Batswana who wanted to rid their land of him given his predatory nature. Mapungubwe is older than Masvingo, archaeologists have testified to this. That Arabs and who so ever built what is now the great Zimbabwe , is nonsensical because why is that there is only one structure like that in the world, which suggests that it was built by the indigenous people over several decades. The so called Shonas are a collection of different ethnic groups, no different from the Nguni ethnic groups. Mzilikazi did not co-exist with Mambo, let alone the latter welcoming him with open arms. The Kalanga have no affinities with the Nguni groups, none at all, except being identified as a lower cate in the Ndebele State Amahole. The Shonas say their history as they know it. The Ndebele fiction here only impresses the ignorant while the knowledgeable regard it as balderdash.

Mzilikazi was in fact a nephew of Zwide, but Zwide had killed his in law Mzilikazis father. It was for that reason that Mzilikazi assisted Shaka in killing Zwide in what was fast becoming the land of Zwide Ndwandwe who had successfully defeated the the other rival clan Mthethwa of Dingiswayo. So there was truly no Zulu nation at that time. What Shaka led was a small Zulu clan that he then strengthened by taking over the reigns of his former teacher Mthethwa whose clan was worthy of a nation. Almost immediately after fighting on the wrong side, Shaka's side, Mzilikazi left because he never intended to bow down to Shaka in the first place, theirs was an alliance of convenience. The Zulu became a nation in part due to Mzilikazis assistance, but by the time they did Mzilikazi was well on his way making trouble for former neighbours who had established the Southern Ndebele clan in Pretoria. The Shona and Tswana referred to deflectors from the fallen Ndwandwe/Mthethwa kingdoms as Ndebele for their spears and long shields. Even though Mzilikazi called his people bakaMthwarkazi, but to natives bakaMthwakazi like the Southern Ndebele(Mhlanga/Kekana/Mahlangu/Mabhena)Ngunis who terrorized them long before Mzilikazi arrived, were simply Ndebele, they couldnt be convinced otherwise. Moreover they would have had of Shaka a fierce king but there Zulu kingdom itself was lesser known, it was in its formation so it would not be easy simply call everyone Zulu. In fact name Zulu Kingdom was officially promoted by the British who chose just of many feuding chiefs to promote to kingship for control. The Mthethwa, The Ndwandwe, The Ngwana, The Hlubi are ll powerful clans in that area who could have easily given their name to the British Bantustan Come Province Come Nation of many nations)
@sunhythen
Жыл бұрын
Mzilikazi washed himself of his Zuluness when he purposefully defied the Zulu King and broke away in order to forge his own Kingdom, which he did. So why should we be called anything else. We are not Zulus, we never were at any point. Mzilikazi and his counterparts may have been Zulu when they left KZN. But a number of Identity Changing events took place along the way, such that the people who dwell in the lands of Matabeleland are by no means Zulu. This nation is Mthwakazi or HlabeZulu, and the people of this nation are therefore Ndebeles, Vendas, Xhosas, Tongas etc. It's simple really.

@sunhythen
Жыл бұрын
@@childofthesoil1163We are not denying our History, I hope you don't get me wrong. We are connected with the Zulus. We acknowledge that, which is why we never changed our language or our culture. So you are right when you say we are cousins, coz we are not the same thing, calling us cousins shows indeed that we are not the same, though we are somehow related. What's strange my friend is that when Zulus see us, they detest us, thinking we are trying to imitate them, but when other people see us they feel we are trying to deny our Identity. Zulus don't want to associate with us. Such that if there is anyone trying to cut ties, it is them not us. As for who Mzilikazi was and where the nation came from, we know it, we are proud of it and we continue to teach it. We know who we are. SingamaNdebele kaMzilikazi, we are not the same.

Another mistake you make in your assumption is to group all Shona pple together, Shona has different tribes or dialects. I speak both Shona and Isindebele. I can tell you now that those langauges are similar and if you listen carefully differences are in the "r" and "l" pronunciations depending with the dialect.
