As someone about to set up for indoor cycling I have to disagree. I see I have the choice of kickr core + year of zwift (which includes either the virtual shifting and hub or a cassette) or for £600 more I can get no free year of zwift and this zwift ride frame, effectively making it £800 more if I want a year of zwift. And, to me, that makes no sense. Even if I didn't have a bike or I didn't want to use my bikes. I don't understand at all why this sku wouldn't include a free year of zwift. As for multiple people using it, I'm hesitant on that given the limited saddle fore/aft movement - others will complain about the fixed crank length too although I'm not convinced that is such a big deal. You know there's just about enough fore / aft on my saddles to fit them to a frame that's pretty damn close to the right size, for me. If I had to put someone else on my bike who was significantly shorter or taller and put the saddle in the right place? We're going to struggle without getting fancy seatposts etc. Look at the fore/aft saddle adjustment on a wattbike atom - that's what you need for "one size fits all" - and I bet without looking the other smart bikes are the same. You need something that slides back and forth by several cm not a few mm. And the irony is, if I get the kickr core + year of zwift with free cassette, I'm actually less tied into zwift even though I've effectively bought a year of zwift - than if I buy this, which I have to use on zwift, but they don't even include it in the (higher) price. That makes zero sense from a consumer pov. Even the kickr core + hub is easier to switch away to another platform whereas if zwift goes out of business or you find reasons not to use it, you have an expensive chocolate teapot that's shaped a bit like a bike in your garage - whereas if you got the kickr core, a year of zwift, cassette included and a bike, whatever a cheap hybrid - and then after a year of zwift you thought "It's not for me" you'd still have a bike you can use as a bike outdoors and that lots of people would buy because there's a bigger market for bikes than there are for zwift rides - and the trainer can be used on other platforms and someone would buy that.

And sure enough, in your review you state that the lowest height of the handlebar is 599 mm from the bottom bracket. I'm a 170 cm rider, and on my road bike the same distance is about 575 mm -- just measured it. I'm quite short for a dude, but at least half of women are shorter. At that price point, interested! The ergonomics of the lever hoods look very uncomfortable and sharp... are they?

No issues with them once I tilted them up a little.

Hi Shane, is there anyway the cog v1 can be soundproofed as the noise is driving me up the wall. Would be great if there is a way as there seems to be lot's of posts about this on Reddit but no answer.

A carbon belt would have been a better choice (and maintenance/dirt-free) than a chain. If Zwift had more foresight, they could have designed a single virtual cog that would work with a chain for existing cog owners and with a belt for new cog purchasers (e.g., an expandable or two-channel cog).

It'd require an interesting redesign with more than just standard chainring/cog/chain they've gone with initially.

I'm surprised it has no steering functionality inbuilt and is likely not compatible with any climb accessory based on how the front looks like. Still good price if you don't have any bike yet and only plan doing indoor I'd guess. Though I can see that frame being pretty nice for some shops as a cheap bike fit to see what bike and saddle is ideal for a potential buyer.

The steering is via the controllers, same as the Play controllers they’ve been selling for the last little while.

@@gplama oh so does the front turn without issues? I guessed it not being a wheel might've made it a bit hard to turn. That means the only thing missing is climb support. Maybe some DIY drillling? XD

@@ryoukokonpaku1575 The front end is fixed. In-game steering is with the paddles on the controllers/levers. Climb support isn't a thing... but I'm sure there could be an interesting hack if someone was to be creative! :)

@@gplama Ah, I was thinking similar to Elite Rizer which I have which controls steering by turning the handlebars. Don't have the controller so I didn't know it operated like that. As for climb support, do I hear a DIY mod soon? ;)

Damn, I would purchase it (I currently own a Kickr v5 and Climb, but looking for a dedicated bike setup). As a tall rider though the 170mm cranks seem like a huge miss #ouchmyknees.. why didn't Zwift use the 'claw' type crank to have 5 length options.. or at least a standard crank so it can be swapped out (hopefully we can) Also, it would have been awesome if they integrated the fork with Wahoo, so it can be used for the Kickr Climb. If I go for the Zwift Ride frame, I probably have to sell the Climb.

Have to wait wahoo allows virtual shifting for kickr 4 model or money for the 6 model.

Great video! Btw can you tilt the shifters (inside) or they have position possible?
@gplama

Yep, the shifters can be moved around a little. I'll take them off in a few days for my bar swap. I'll get some footage of that.

This really should have been developed with a belt. Missed a big opportunity to have a really good product with one.

the fact they don't even have a chain protector for the sweat is an indication of how ill thought out this product is, let alone actually designing it with the best components rather than just stripping a normal bike down as much as possible. Totally agree with you. The trainer itself uses a belt...why they didn't also use one for the bike section baffles me.

Wait until the aluminum handlebar corrodes from salt and sweat and the bottom bracket needs replacing. People will wish they used a normal bike with replaceable parts.

Hi, if i buy the bundle with the zwift core included. Can i then move the cog to my kickr 6 and be running without buying Extras, and then just sell the core as brand new second hand? Best regards
