It's raining here in Ohio today, I truly believe it's not rain but tears from heaven for the late great Dusty Hill. It's a sad day in the rock and roll world. I'm watching some of the best musicians that made the soundtrack to my life pass away too soon. Rip Brother

I worked in an office building across the highway from Chicken Oil. It was great seeing y’all back then. Next, I saw you after the Fabulous Thunderbirds before the Rolling Stones at the Dallas Football Stadium where the Cowboys played football!!! Awesome!!! You guys are amazing. First time I saw ZZ Top was when I was a young USAF Airman stationed at Dyess AFB, Texas in the very early 1971. Not much to do in Abilene but get drunk, smoke, and party. Well, someone from our Air Force group of party animals at Dyess told us that there was good local band from Houston that was going to play at the Abilene High School. We didn’t know the name of the band but we went just for something to do on that Friday night. Well, ZZ Top came out on that small high school band, dressed in jeans and sweat shirts with arms cut off. They rocked that place down big time. We all knew that this new band had the sound and we all thought and knew that they were going to make it big in the future. What impressed us the most was that there was no fancy light show, just 3 guys playing their heart out for the audience. A few years later in 1974, our same group of party animals went to see them at their annual concert at the University of Texas Austin football filed. It was an outdoor concert with around 90,000 in attendance. They had ZZ Top, Santana, Bad Company, and Joe cocker at that 12-hour outdoor concert. ZZ top was the headliner. This time they came out on stage in white sequined sparkling suits instead of jeans and sweatshirt but they still played just as good or even better than the first time we had seen them before they became popular worldwide. Being at the high school concert in 1971 was like being part of ZZ Top history. I’m now 71 years old retired USAF, Vietnam Veteran, and still listen and rock with ZZ TOP music!

I'm a black guy, born in N Carolina, raised in Pittsburgh Pa. I remember being in junior high in 72-73 and starting to see this graffitti for "ZZTop'. "What is ZZTop?" I pronounced it like 'stop' but with a 'z'. The kids said a new group in Texas. I started paying real attention with LaGrange and Tush. Summer of 76 they came to Pittsburgh on the World Wide Texas Tour with Aerosmith , featuring Point Blank. Badass show. I went to college then joined the army. Exactly ten years later I saw them in Munich in 1986, different, but for me just as awesome. I did not understand why i liked them so much until I found out about their Blues roots. Then it all made since. Still lov'em to this day.

I was mostly unaware of ZZ Top, even the Blues for that matter, until 1979 when Deguello was released and I heard " A Fool for Your Stockings ", on the radio, think I was 12 years old, what's a 12 year old to make of a song like THAT? I was nearly upset, because I knew ZZ Top had me hook line and sinker. So, I just gave in and went with it. When you think there was nothing better I stumbled on Jesus Just Left Chicago, and whole other albums like Tres Hombres with super cool names and songs that where a whole other universe to explore. I said thousands of times, " ....how can they be so good? "

Afterburner was mentioned briefly but left to the wayside: a kind of black sheep in their catalogue I guess. It was the first album I heard from them when I was a young kid in the mid-80's and holds a special place in my heart since!

In Canada the State of Texas is very tiny compared to most of our Provinces. However ZZ Top was huge world wide. :) Thanks ZZ Top. :) Love from Canada. ;)

The matching guitar/bass was one of the bands greatest trademarks. While the world watched their beards grow, I salivated over the instruments they played in duo.

These guys played at Western Springs Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand 1987. They pulled the biggest crowd they had ever played to. NZ had a total population then of around 3 million. Was a great gig.

@@manuelmontiel5418 You are way ahead of me. I knew nothing about them until I just happened to pick up a copy of Tres Hombres in a record store in Barbados of all places,in the 80's. Been hooked ever since.
