First heard them in 73 when a friend played their first two albums for me. He told me they were playing at j.j's, a little club on Pacific coast highway the next night. Immediately went and bought tickets. Man what a show. No flash, just kick ass showmanship. They were dressed in jeans and tee shirts. When they came out Billy walked up to the Mic and said. "We're just a lil ol band from Texas and I hope we don't bore y'all too much". As soon as the word much came out of his mouth they hit it and didn't stop all night. Been a fan since my friend dropped the needle on their first album.

Nice!! :-D I first became a fan when I was 12 and a friend dropped the needle on The Eliminator album. That fan craze only worsened when my very cool and ver much missed grandmother gave me The Eliminator album, AC/DC's Back In Black Album and Nazareth's Hair of the Dog albums for Christmas. Turns out she had gone to Sound Warehouse (remember those?) and asked the clerk working there what music a 12 year old girl might like. That clerk pointed out those three albums and she bought them! Presented them to me for Christmas and I was the happiest kid that year. lol I even got my grandmother to like ZZ Top after she was curious and asked how I liked the albums. I played The Eliminator album for her and she was bobbing her head along to it. She always knew how much that music meant to me and every time we got to hang out, she'd ask me to put it on for her. Best grandmother ever! I've seen ZZ Top in concert twice and always left wanting MORE. :-D

I caught their Tejas tour in early '77 at the Big A (Anaheim, CA stadium). The stage was shaped like Texas and they had a live longhorn steer onstage with them, wandering around. I've been a fan since '73 when the Tres Hombres album came out. Love their rock, but truly love their down home blues. Viva ZZ Top!

BG and the Top. They know what it takes to breed funk, rock, blues and decadence in a well crafted story telling manner.. It goes back to Moving Sidewalks and ZZ First Album in 1970.
