My daughter has a 2012 ford fusion the fan gets very loud after driving it and it will run loud even after cutting it off for a few minutes then it cuts off…well now her battery is going dead and we have to keep jump starting her car. What is going on?

Easier fix just loosen those bolts so the fan isn't so tight up in there.

Thanks for the advice! I also lowered my fan just a tad in addition to sanding a bit and that seems to quiet it down!

Mine has both problems....excess plastic, and a motor that's tick-y even after pulling it out of the housing. Sanded down the plastic, at least it runs now...still ticks though. Appreciate your vid, but I wish you had more vid of the repair, and less of you....sorry.

After reading through some other comments I'll run the fan when it's out of the housing. That way I know it I have to get in there and sand more or if it is indeed the motor making the sound instead. This video is still the best one there is on this subject in terms of troubleshooting !

Hey buddy, I just want to say thanks for your due diligence. I haven't even began to do these steps yet but I already know it will be spot on. Been dealing with this for 2 years and just never been too annoyed to actually fix it. It's getting colder now and now the noise is more prominent. Today I decided I will figure it out and a couple forums talked of a video out there showing the fix by shaving a piece off. After a youtube search. Here you are. My man, much love

I didn't unplug the motor, i only unscrewed the 3 bolts. Then I turned on the AC to see whether the noise was coming from the actual motor or because of the housing. Turns out, it was the motor since it was still making the noise without it being in the housing. Does that mean I have to buy a new blower motor? Because I've tried grinding down the housing and nothing seems to work. Thanks

Well, I did as you said and I found (4) round 3/4" circular injection points on the underside of the fan housing. They seemed very small, but i figured, what the hell....So I grabbed some 100 grit sand paper and using my left F#%*ing hand sanded it the best I could. Reinstalled and sure as sh*t, I don't hear any sound. I got the 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid and was about to replace the fan for 100$. If this continues to work....You get the F%$#ING GENIUS AWARD! Thanks MAN! EDIT: My Milan had (3) 7/32" hex screws holding the motor in place!

Wow, I forgot about this thread. So I still own my 2010 Milan Hybrid and in the end I did change out the fan. The sound did come back slowly and I just decided to give the new fan a shot seeing that I already bought it and it did fix my problem. I guess in the end, replace it. Its super easy to take out and install. ***Any Hybrid owners should know that I got a letter in the mail about updating the software for the battery system for free! DO IT, it is a limited time fix they are offering.

I have a 2009 fusion and have had the same noise. I started to follow the instructions , but wow what an awkward position to be in to try to sand or grind down part of the housing. So basically since it is a piece moulded out of perfect round either on the housing or on the fan cage itself. I figured I would look to see if anything could cause either to be misaligned. What I found was some sticky stuff with grit in the fan motor ( the piece that fits onto the housing. that small groove on the outside) , maybe from the manufacturing process some glue or oil or something leaked into that grove (looking down at the removed motor towards the cage). . So I took a screw driver with some cloth and cleaned out the groove. I was thinking this extra stuff was causing the motor housing to sit crooked a l;itt;e bit. Voila no more noise at any speed. so from my opinion it could be either a mis-mou;ded housing or fan cage , or something causing the fan cage and motor from not sitting properly in the housing. P.S. cleaning that groove was a lot easier than grinding and sanding. This also speaks to why in some cases a ne motor assembly will also fix the problem if there is no foreign substance in that groove that mounts into the fan housing under the gloovebox.

Thanks, this worked on my 2010. I only used some sand paper and sanded the area with obvious scuff marks. FYI for others, the "protrusion " looks to be a deformation of the plastic where tube like hole exists the cylindrical housing.

I'm betting if anyone comes across this video with this problem and reads this guys comment, I would bet the actual bearings are shot in your fan unit and you need to replace it. You should still look under and see if those injection mold spots have any ridges on them and sand them off before installing your new blower motor to guarantee that you have a nice quiet experience for the life of your next fan. But bad bearings lead to higher electrical pull on the relay causing that to burn out and over time the harness could melt and go too. So don't ignore this sound, it could be bearings or a bad molding.

Hey Joe Cool....you may be right, however, it does appear that minimum wear on the motor bearings causes the fan to rub against the housing.....I have mot taken the motor out yet, my question is, is there a way to lube the bearings on the motor?

The same thing happens on my 2008 ford fusion. I have not tried his method yet but I would assume that if this is the issue, the heat causes a slight expansion of the blower closing the gap between the blades of the turbine and the imperfection on the housing.
