I saw you say a couple times all families have to live on base. Do you mean when it's available, or right away? When we moved there in 85, we stayed maybe a month at a motel type place with other incoming Americans, then moved to an American townhouse "village" in the country somewhere. That was maybe 4-6 months before getting north base housing. We kids had to bus to school. If it's they can't be off base at all, do you happen to know why? Did something bad happen? I wonder because our bus stop was on a blind vegetative curve with a big round mirror to help drivers. One morning, a girl migrated into the road and a fast driving Japanese national screeched loooong to a halt to narrowly miss her. She and we all froze in fear. She literally almost got killed.The driver looked understandably furious, then we yelled at the girl to stay off the road.

C Ch Yeah families live on base unless they have a special reason not too. Those who live off are normally single military. I believe mil to mil can live off (not 100%) and if you have a health reason to where you can’t be in housing or if you come as unaccompanied and your spouse comes as like an individual or if there is no more housing on base. There might be a few other reason but they like to keep the families on base since they have the room and I’m assuming if a disaster takes place they want to be able to get everyone to safety. There is enough housing on base for everyone so when families get here they are usually only in the hotel for like 2 or 3 days and then they move into their homes. I’m sure there is more info to who and why but I’m just going by information I’ve found.

Our Navy Life . Oh, OK thanks for clarifying. I know back in the 80s they were still building on north base (like the first tower in 87ish). So perhaps that is why so many of us waited as long as we did. When I was in the army in the 90s, many families had to wait forever for housing in certain CONUS posts. Glad to see things improving.

C Ch That’s crazy, yes they definitely have built a lot more housing since then. But we would love to live off base! Would be way nicer.

Our Navy Life . Yeah it was cold though. We had an entry way that was freezing! Our dad would wake up buttcrack early every morning for work and go around turning on heaters in our rooms. And going to the toilet in the night was excruciating. But then, most 14 yr olds are a little precious that way. So maybe an adult would fare better. Lol

I lived there when they built the tower (or the first one if there are more). We lived in the nearby officers housing (teens) so we went over running around it before many people moved in and got stuck in the elevator . We had to use the emergddncy phone. 🤣🤣🤣

if you dont mind me asking how do you get big furniture items up into your place ? (mattresses, couches, ect.)
@marchantdesiree

Matthew Auner we rented a truck from the place at the BX and we moved them ourselves cause we didn’t want to wait on the furniture store on base to deliver them lol but if you didn’t want to do it yourself I think it’s like $35 for them to deliver whenever they have a free spot.

Holy cow! You have AIR CONDITIONING! When we lived there in the '90s no housing on base (including the towers) had air conditioning. Sucked in the Summer when the guy below you was grilling on the patio.

Hi there! Im enjoying your videos! My fiance is in the navy and we are planning to get married. What are the chances he would be sent to Japan? I honestly don't want to go to Japan because I'll be graduating from nursing school and I wanted to work as an RN here in the US. He's in spec ops, and was given 4 places to choose from. Florida, California, Hawaii and Japan. Was japan your guys' first choice?

Well Colby was already stationed in Atsugi, Japan. When he did his picks after the 3 years there he picked japan again among other places and of course they picked japan for his next station place. So now we are in Misawa Japan. but i think it just really depends on where they need him the most.

Josef I think single either live in the barracks or off base cause they want to have room for families in the base housing. So you should have way better choices lol

My Lady Fire I think I might know what it is I tried the KZitem fix thing that is supposed to help with the shaking. I will see if there is a way to take it off! I've noticed it in another video so I stopped using that and must have forgotten about this video! Thanks for the comment! Sorry about that :)
