Very helpful, thanks! Can I ask- when standing in front of the LED version, and looking ahead at the light, is it blinding? Or not really? I want to use it as a backdrop for a live music gig, and obviously stand and play in front of the light that is projected behind me on the wall. Thanks

I think I'd find it quite annoying shining right on me for any length of time - it's the same as having any light shining right at you, maybe you are used to this? Also depends how sensitive you are to glare. Perhaps coming in at an angle or directed behind you could be a good compromise, or just on your lower body.

Worked with the older black & grey versions in the late 80's through the early 90's, and recently decided to get a pair of the newer ones to throw some color around the house and private shindigs. Lighter, quieter, cooler, brighter - all positives in my book. I would prefer a "warmer" LED color - or rather perhaps the option of having one - but considering a lot of venues present far from pitch-black scenarios, the brighter LED is an overall plus (and I'm not going to have to replace lamps!). With the magnetic mounts, I imagine (despite the situation that happened here with using the older wheel on the newer projector) far less oil wheel breakage than in the past. I do wonder what issues will crop up with the "active gate" over time (corrosion, electrical and physical wear) and I bet those rather delicate mini-switches on them are going to need replacing soon enough - due to some heavy-handed tech or from inadvertent rough handling while installing/removing the gate or during packing and shipping. Thanks for the demos on the differences between the two models! I, for one, am quite happy with the new model.

Thanks, that was quite illuminating, I’ve never been to any light 💡 installation. Some seemed no more than vacuous novelty, a day out with the kids ? The more outside one, seemed to create very high quality fractal type visuals, but once you pass through it and admire such, it seemed to have fulfilled its limited purpose. The art install that took 7 years, looks like it could have been compelling. The Dali seemed a shame, I imagine his art could work well with some sort of light/graphical installation, but the projection looked very poor. It must be exceptionally expensive to create a really worthwhile install, it must be difficult also to not fall down a rabbit hole of novelty. Because of how much I appreciate, playing some music and submerging myself in visuals, I can imagine some amazing things could be created though, but I feel it would need to be submersive and flow in some continuum, an emotional journey. Maybe something like the simple journey from nothing via life through to death into nothing. Or something a bit like the quatsi trilogy/ baraka where there is a transition from the natural world into the world industrial world. Or Maybe a journey of the 20th century from basic industry to technology. Even an install playing with Kubricks 2001 a space odyssey. I feel the installs need a narrative a concept!

Good luck, merging a variety of things, creates something novel, it seems that’s what evolution has been doing since the dawn of time, so why shouldn’t you. I had an inkling to create a psychedelic eating experience with gelato and optikinetics and music, a place that you don’t know if you there to eat or be, tying in my hobbies, of course I never bothered, it’s so much easier to think than to do.

I’m guessing the led is much quieter ? I have an old optikinetics clone, and it makes a real racket, I just use it in house for personal use. I’m thinking the 65mm lense would be best for home use as it’s short throw and create a bigger image at a shorter through distance.
