So the horse was trotting fast the whole time? And the speed read 43mph? Why wasn't he at a gallop by then? I didn't know it was possible for a horse to trot that fast.
@Synexin
Жыл бұрын
The speed was 43 kmh which is just under 27mph. This horse is pacing, not trotting; the world record for fastest mile by a pacer is 1:45 2/5, the fastest trotter slightly behind at 1:48 2/5. The world record for fastest mile by a thoroughbred on dirt is 1:32 1/5, so the standardbreds aren't that far behind in either gait.

She is being medically tested so as to ensure that she is NOT abused by racing if she has a breathing disorder. 2) She is not being forced to go too fast for too long. A) This horse is not being abused. She is being medically tested so as to ensure that she is NOT abused by racing if she has a breathing disorder. B) She is not being forced to go too fast for too long. This is less work than she would normally do in a normal training session. It's well within her capabilities. C) She is being held with tight leads because she is a trained athlete who can travel a lot faster than this treadmill if she decided to do so -- which could endanger her. D) The whip is only used for encouragement the way a baton is used to conduct an orchestra. In this case, because she is not on the track with a driver and other horses around, tapping her with the stick, keeps her mind on what she is doing and helps the vet determine, as she accelerates, if her airway is working properly. If it were not, the test would be stopped. E) She is bred to be a pacer, but sometimes pacers opt to trot when they're not in a competitive situation or they are going slow or asked to go at full speed. Having hobbles on her actually HELPS to ensure that she doesn't lose her footing and fall - HOBBLES DO NOT HURT HER. If they HURT, she would kick them off and keep kicking until she destroyed the entire room. Yes -- she could easily do that if she was being hurt or annoyed. Hobbles do not FORCE her to do anything. They steady her gait and help to make the medical test accurate. No one HURT this mare in any way. Listen, harness racing is not a business like a circus where lions and tigers and elephants often endure cruel training techniques. These are equine athletes who are trained pretty much like kids who go to school for track and field. Believe me, if they do not like the game, or they don't want to race, they will NOT do it. They will refuse to jog or train - they might even lie down on the track. This mare seems to like what she's doing. Like I said, if this BOTHERED her or caused her to be in pain, she would NOT do it and the whole place would look like a hurricane hit it. Thank you.

This video makes it easy to tell real horse people from fakers. This isnt abuse. And the horses are trained for the crop or "whip" and all those. Standardbreds are bred for racing. So they have the endurance. Im pretty sure if a human can run for 6 mins a horse can... And they are monitoring the heart rate on a board and if it went too high they would slow it down. These people are well educated and know what they are doing from experience

We do this all the time, Barrel racers, english riders, race horse, harness horses ect. Its a way to see how are horse cardiovascular system and muscles handle the stress before they hit the track. We usually take them out of training if the speed of the treadmill and the MPH and heart rate can't handle a 40MPH Pace or Trot. We then take blood samples and scope their throat as well as Lungs to see the Pulmonary Pressure. Its all to save a horse before they get to a race or competition. They are worked out before they come to the hospital. Its well worth it, because if anything happens to the horse, the horse is at the best hospital money can buy.

In the description on this video it is said that this horse is being tested for epiglottis entrapment, a condition that causes a horse to have severe breathing difficulties. Often times this condition will only present itself going a certain speed. They have a scope going down this horse's airway to look at the larynx, and a heart rate and breathrate monitor to see how this horse is doing. The woman in the back with a whip is trying to make sure the horse gradually increases speed. This way the horse will go to the point where he starts to have breathing issues if he has them. This horse will never race again if the diagnosis was made, and for a good reason. If breathing abnormalities are observed the horse is immediately slowed to a walk and unhooked. Before calling abuse, know what you are watching. The condition only gets worse over time, so even if they were never to do this test and he was rehomed to a loving family, the horse would end up in big trouble as it got older. This diagnostic test is for his lifelong health and possible treatment if available.

Lucy, you think that testing her for a medical problem is "barbaric?" Would you rather she was sent to a slaughterhouse by callous owners who said, "Screw her, she can't breathe right? If your dog was coughing when he walked, would you let him keep coughing until he died or choked to death or would you bring him to the vet for testing like any responsible animal owner? If your kid had a breathing problem, would you take him to the doctor or just let him suffer? This is an animal who might have a medical problem, and she is being treated and tested. It's what NON-barbaric people do.

It's so annoying when people say that this is cruel. 1) A horse is considered lucky and spoiled if they have access to a treadmill. 2) Horses have lots of endurance. If people can run for 6 minutes, Im sure a horse can. 3) These people are not "idiots". They are experienced and have done this many times. 4) You see that board at 4:34? In case you haven't noticed, that's there so the people there can carefully monitor the horse. If the horse is in any way overworked, they would see so in the heart rate and immediately slow down and/or stop the treadmill. 5) Treadmills are for exercise. And if you think exercise is cruel, you're the idiot.

Firstly, this is a Pacer, not a trotter. I am a licensed groom in the harness racing industry. The hopples (some call them hobbles) are for the PACERS, not trotters. It helps them keep the pace and deters them from what is called "breaking" (running in lamens terms). It does NOT mess up their heads as they are not connected to their head (duh!). It also does not ruin their joints considering they do not sit at their joints but rather above them. Lastly, it is NOT cruel to use them. I would go learn something about the industry before you say any more stupid stuff.

The racing industry or at least parts are messed up. My horse is an expacer and is classified as a dangerous horse as he bolts as he's been taught if he canters he gets whipped so now every time he does anything more than a walk he canters then bolts.

Ponies on Wheels and not all horses from racing are like that.. We own 8 expacers and they are all happy horses. We've even bought a few that is "fresh off" track and they are nowhere near being scared or have any anxiety about pacing and being afraid to break. My horse was an expacer that came off track many years ago and I've owned him for 8 years. Not only has he won dozens and dozens of trophies in pacing competitions, he also jumps and runs barrels. 🙂

The description says this horse is being tested for epiglottic entrapment, a breathing condition that only displays itself when a certain speed is reached. The lady is making sure that the horse does not slow but instead increases speed gradually until the symptoms appear or he reaches his maximum capability without breathing difficulties. She is aiding in an accurate diagnosis. Over the ground, I used to be very concerned as well. Someone explained to me that the way the weight is carried in standardbred racing (pulled instead of ridden, and the way their pace works) the horses are actually healthier on hard ground. It's a pretty backwards sounding concept compared to other disciplines including thoroughbred racing:)

Also, nichts daran ist Tierquälerei :)
