Native Dances of Peru - K'ajelos San Juan
The K'ajelo is a traditional dance from the Puno region - Peru, which reflects the feelings of love and courtship in the Andean culture. Its name derives from the Aymara language "Qajho", which means "young" or "adolescent". This colorful and romantic dance originated in the Pichacani and Laraqueri areas and has spread to other Aymara regions, such as Chucuito, Platería, Acora, Collao-Ilave, Yunguyo and Chucuito-Juli.The "San Juan de Dios - Pichacani K'ajelos Youth Ensemble" has stood out as one of the main promoters and ambassadors of the traditional K'ajelo dance. It has participated in numerous festivals at the district, provincial and regional levels, consistently obtaining first places. In addition, digital media is being used as a tool to disseminate and revalue our culture, customs and traditions.
