An enjoyable video Gwen. That bumblebee new what it wanted and knew where to find it and it was able to get in there without destroying the delicate flower. I've always loved bumblebees and I take great care when mowing to not run them over.

Thank you Gwen. I put my headphones on and was able to hear them clearly. Such a beautiful song. A beautiful setting also with the sun getting ready to set through trees. I've seen lots of evidence from your videos of what a wonderful area that your home is in. You have such a variety of plants and animals.

Thanks, Jay. We LOVE this little park. If I was was a raven I could visit Beartown from our house in less than 2 minutes. Before a big area (private land) on Droop Mountain between our place and the park was logged in the 1990's, we used to enjoy hiking to Beartown from home, as we live on the SE end of Droop Mt. But the logging operation obscured the old trails beyond recognition and we have't attempted it since that happened. It's only about a 20 minute drive, but was more of an adventure (although more strenuous!) when we could walk there from here.

@@scherzo12222 Hey Gwen, guess what? I just pulled down a book that I have had in my little book shelf for about 10 years. It is a travel book called "Off the Beaten Path". Entry number 14 for West Virginia is Beartown State Park. It lists the location as Route 219, 7 miles southwest of Hillsboro. There is a photo of a trail that goes between a couple of huge rocks composed of Droop sandstone. It looks like a fall picture. The description refers to it as a "fascinating place" which I'm sure it is. It looks beautiful and sounds beautiful. I also just looked at my atlas and it shows Beartown State Park and tiny a town named Droop. So your closest "big city" must be Lewisburg. About a year ago I watched a youtube video about Lewisburg. I'm not making that up. What an interesting area you live in! You made a really good choice some years to move to where you are. Thanks again for your video.

@@user-js5et3gc8q I'm glad you enjoyed the video Jay. "Droop" is listed as an "unincorporated" town, but it's not a town. I'm not sure how that happens. Here's another example. We live near Locust Creek. The only remaining covered bridge in Pocahontas County crosses Locust Creek. You can google " Locust Creek Covered Bridge WV". Recently a sign went up near the bridge that says "Locust Creek Unincorporated"---as though it was a town, but it's not...it's a creek. There was once a grist mill near the bridge, but that's long gone. Yes Lewisburg is the closest city, about 45 minutes from here. Marlinton in our county seat and we'd much rather go there than Lewisburg, if there were more choices as to grocery stores. It's way less hectic than Lewisburg, and it's closer, too.

@@scherzo12222 Yes, this is interesting Gwen because the "no town" thing goes on in Minnesota just like it does where you are in West Virginia. Julie and I lived for several years on the farm property where my mother grew up after we were married in 1972. The property is 6 miles north of Warroad almost right on the Canadian border. My dad bought 160 acres of land in that area along highway 313 one mile south of the U.S. Customs when I was about 5 years old. It cost him $1,600 at the time. Many maps I have seen show that exact spot to be a town named "Longworth". The only thing that I remember as Longworth was a railroad sidetrack for the Canadian National Railroad with a sign next to the track that bore the the name "Longworth". I know that in the 1930's there was a one-room log schoolhouse where my mother attended grade school at that spot but it was long gone when I was a boy. Oh, look at this! I turned your local West Virginia geography into Minnesota history; must be an autistic thing. I found Marlinton In my road atlas(and Hillsboro). I love maps.

That is such a beautiful spot Gwen and you got to hear the Hermit thrush! The waterfall shelf is really interesting. I wonder if it might look kind of homey to a bear back underneath the shelf. It looks like a fun place to explore.

There were some nice water-polished stones under there. No, I don't think a bear would like the constant wetness! There are fairly frequent flash floods here in these mts. and that would become a raging torrent at times. Hey it was good to hear from you, Jay (email) and I'll write back soon. I had some better Hermit Thrush choruses just last week and much closer to home! I got some videos with them singing and will see if they''re good enough to put here on YT.

We see them outside right around our house nearly every day, Cecile. There are 2 mama bears, and 5 cubs between them, and other bears stroll through as well. We don't have a dog, so they feel safe here. Black bears are generally not dangerous, like other North American bear species can be.

This is an amazing video Gwen. I've never seen a mother bear nursing her cubs before and I can't even remember seeing a video like yours before. This is really special. Your bear friends have to be pretty trusting of you to bring their little cubs so close to your home. We had one bear come through about a week ago but it seems to have wandered off. Bears are common around Cook County sometimes even hanging around in town ( Grand Marais ). Julie and I enjoy your videos. My email address is available on my channel if you want to send any other videos or pictures or links.

Thank you, Jay. She came and nursed them again yesterday. This time she was in a sitting position and looked very uncomfortable and it was of much shorter duration. I 'd like to put this one on KZitem as well, but my husband was in another room watching a news story and the sound got into my video. I guess I should learn how to edit out unwanted background sound! Jay I'd love to share some of my wildlife pics with you and Julie and will take you up on that! Most of the video files are too large to send in emails, but I think I will start uploading more of those here. We have another mama bear also visiting now, with 2 cubs. She is very shy...Wileybear is not!

@@user-js5et3gc8q Well you've given me the inspration to start getting my videos uploaded here! I have many 1000's of nature photos of mine, all from here in WV and most from around the house, woods and meadows. I'll send a few tonight. One reason why the bears are so comfortable here is that we have no dogs, and we're probably the only people for miles around that don't. We have 2 cats, indoors only. Keera and Hester. Are you on Facebook? There's a group there called "For the Love of Deer" that I know you'd like. I joined it years ago, but maybe posted no more than a single photo there.

Wow, 140 views in a decade, LOL!!! Hey---- it even got a "like"! That was probably my husband, God bless him. I do a lot of nature photography and put together this compilation of several years' worth of nature unfolding in May as a way of working out my grief after the death of my beloved 19-yr. old Tortie cat, Keeten, on April 5, 2013. I really got into flow making this slide show, and it truly helped me get through the worst of the sorrow of losing my dear little companion.
