Bit puzzled. Danced in London in 1950s-rarly 1960s & Peggy McTaggert from Cork was a wonderful & regular adjudicator - and I thought Cormac O'Keefe was too, but my memory isn't that good &; that doesn't seem to fit your dates! He, Peggy & John Cullinane were great at helping to preserve these older dances and steps learnt first hand from the earlier dancing masters, such as Murray. . Peggy's pupil & later lecturer & course director at the Irish World Music centre at Limerick University, Dr Catherine Foley, learnt these traditional dances from Peggy and did further research into North Kerry dancing and others. There are videos of her dancing them on KZitem. Danced here perfectly in the correct style. Well done to everyone involved. PS I think Margaret was Peggy's daughter?

Irish dance for life #dancer Some dance schools have different variations and steps for traditional sets. For example Blackbird is way different to what I do. Just keep doing your thing cause this video was just to assist people with the same steps as them. 👍

I've been Irish dancing for almost 7 years now we use wigs for dance competitions !! Since they were practicing they most limitless didn't want to go through the pain and annoyance of putting on the wigs. From my experience they take a long time and MANY bobby pins😂😂

The curly hair comes from the tradition of the Sunday best -- you would dress to dance as you would to go to church, and usually that meant curling your hair. For myself, to get the same effect as the wig takes five and a half hours of putting my hair in rollers, sleeping on it overnight, keeping it in the rollers until right before the performance, and then taking it out/spraying the crap out of it/making adjustments as needed. And even then, it STILL falls out. (I have very long, very thick hair, though, so... grain of salt.) So I'm very grateful for the wigs.

This is wonderful! I've been trying to teach myself all the trad sets, but I know they're are so many variations on tradition. I learned an almost identical "Three Sea Captains" over in Ireland. My version of "King of the Fairies" is quite different, but I can tell where the similarities occur. Where did you learn these versions? Who passed them down to you from their original choreographers/dance masters? Very exciting :)
