Thanks for posting these. When I was a teenager and knew nothing about Bach, or classical music, I had another teenager, a boy, say to me, “ Bach is to me as God is to the layman.” I have discovered that upbeat Bach is great for my prayer plus exercise times. Somehow he helps me to focus better.

I feel the people who compose music for the Castlevania game series take a lot of inspiration from Bach.

This music is so fantastic and i thank you from my heart for this two hours of pleasure for ears and body! The only thing i would like to tell you: give 4 or 5 seconds of silence between the pieces, it would be a pleasure even more! Do you agree? That would be fine, thank you in advance!

I’m enjoying the slideshow of ordinary people in daily life as much as the music. I would love to browse around in these general stores, drugstores, hardware stores & etc. of this era.

As an African, I feel ragtime did something great in the mind of a slave those days. When I close my eyes I see a white man playing and a slave watching in amusement and the master is not driving him away tho. Its beautiful

Ragtime was created after slavery was abolished in the United States. The first big ragtime composer we know of was Scott Joplin, now considered the king of ragtime. He was a free black man. So ragtime definitely has some influence from the African diaspora, though it was primarily influenced by American military marches. When ragtime became infused by the influx of Caribbean black diaspora in New Orleans, it then became jazz. In other words, it’s all connected man💯

(1) THANK YOU for not attempting to colorize these photos. That nefarious practice has insidiously crept into our era via an ignorant generation, and I’m grateful you didn’t succumb to it, either in photo choice or photo editing. (2) Nevertheless, as others have asked in the comments: who are we listening to? Could you credit the performer, please, whether a human or player piano?
