Oh God, no! No wool should ever go to waste! It’s so precious! Lovely video! And now I want to go live there! Knitting and crocheting all day! ❤

Unfortunately, we are not very good at utilising wool worldwide. Very few countries use all their wool, and it is very sad. Happy to hear that the video sparked an interest in the Faroe Islands, I would start with visiting though :D

There is a beautiful natural cream, ribbed, raglan sleeved sweater at the 14:00 minute mark - is there a name/pattern for this garment?
@shisabrand5425
28 күн бұрын
At the 14:00 minute mark, we are at Navia. Navia sells finished sweaters and patterns. I think the ones you see there are not patterns but finished designs. But you could visit navia.fo to see if you can find it on their website. Or contact them directly, they might be able to help you. Good luck :)

How can I buy a fleece? I would love to have a Faroe fleece!
@shisabrand5425

If you think of using fleece to spin yourself, it is difficult to get Faroese fleece. But you could get in contact with Búnaðarstovan (bst.fo). If you are interested in a fleece like a rug, I recommend visiting this website: faroesheep.com/en/. Good luck :)

Unique and isolated..the sheep being able to graze where they wish would make the quality of the wool hardy with the very soft underlay..I am knitting now with the cooler months setting in..living in Australia in Melbourne where winter can be chilly..thankyou for sharing..❤

Thank you for taking the time to comment. There sure is a difference between our wool and yours in Australia. But having grown up with our Faroese sheep roaming everywhere, I have a soft spot for them, and I love our wool - and it is especially the coarse overcoat that appeals to me - mixed with the inner layer. But yours is easier to sell, as it is that much softer - that's for sure. Good luck with the projects you are working on. As one priest told me - "at least we don't sin while we knit" :)

Where can we buy the faraose wool? I would love to support !
@shisabrand5425
Ай бұрын
Hi @MichelleLewis-nc8zv Thank you for your interest and your wish to support, that is amazingly kind of you <3 Yarn can be bought from the brands Navia.fo and Snældan.fo (or Faroese Wool Yarn is sold out at Snældan now). Wool itself is, unfortunately, more difficult to get a hold of. It is not possible to buy wool in smaller amounts. Another way to support the use of Faroese wool is to buy from brands that sell designs made with it. shisabrand.com uses solely Faroese Wool in all our designs. reka-studio.com/ has some designs in which they only use Faroese Wool and there is more to come from them. duritathomsen.com also has quite a lot of Faroese Wool in their designs. The same goes for einstakt.com and gudrungudrun.com. If you happen to be writing from New York, the event on Saturday, April 20th, might interest you. We are quite excited about this event at Scandinavia House, and we have shipped over plenty of designs, many of which are made with Faroese Wool: www.scandinaviahouse.org/sh/design/faroese-design-wool-knitting-screening-panel-discussion/

Great video. As a Canadian knitter, I knew nothing about Faroese wool, and now I know more than the basics.Thank you for posting this. Do any of the farmers sell their excess fleeces and if so, is there a way to contact one (or more)?
@shisabrand5425
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Nadia, I am happy to read this :) I don't think any of the farmers would sell excess fleeces for export. They will sell their wool to the wool terminal only. There, the wool is sorted into qualities, and first class wool will be separated into the different colours. And from there, packed into big bails and made ready for yarn producers. But not all wool is sold in bails, a smaller amount is sold to small producers and people who would like to experiment with the wool. It is only sorted though, not washed. I would recommend that you contact the Agricultural association (www.bst.fo/). The best person to get in contact with is Dorthea Joensen, who you also see in the documentary. I hope this was helpful :)
