8l90 trans shudder caused by torque converter Either a updated trans fluid flush or torque converter and valve body replacement
@HewigIsidore
6 ай бұрын
The problem with the GM 8L90E transmission is not the Torque Converter or even the Fluid, believe it or NOT. For one, the transmission runs too hot for starters. The transmission thermostat bypass opens up about 194F degrees. Too damn HOT. The AFM System is what’s destroying these Torque Converters in my humble opinion respectfully. When the engine transitions back and forth from 8 to 4 & 4 to 8 cylinders, it significantly increases the TCC Desired Slip Rpm. I suspect GM engineers doing this to reduce vibration through the drivetrain for driver comfort at the expense of the Torque Converter it self. If the programming does not increase the TCC Desired Slip RPM during AFM, the customer would experience noticeable vibration every time the AFM engages. This act drastically wears out the Clutch lining inside the Torque Converter apply piston. The key to solving this issue if your transmission is not to far gone believe it or NOT is in the valve body and turning off AFM. The transmission valve body control the ENTIRE function of the transmission, to include the Torque Converter. There are 3 shift kits on the market that will absolutely eradicate this issue, if the transmission is still in good shape and not too far gone. These companies are SONNAX & TRANS GO I have personally myself installed and 😂combined 2 kits with a SONNAX TCC Kit and Shift Kit at 30,000 miles. I have 85,000 right now. Solved all my issues. Always remember that the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, TCC Pressure Regulator Valve and Pressure Regulator Spring is what controls the Torque Converter mechanically and electronically thru PCM to TCM commands thru CAN BUS…. communications.

I also own a 2017 Sierra Denali with the 6.2 and 8 speed. My truck was doing this exact same thing. Shuddering, felt through the steering wheel and truck. Vibrating like rumble strips sometimes. Always with a light load or small hill, low rpm’s. I don’t know if you still have the truck or not, and it may be too late but I just tried a solution and it basically made my truck enjoyable to drive again. No shudder at all, and I haven’t even gone a week since I added this transmission additive called Lube Guard Platinum ATF Protectant. This stuff seriously works, it’s silk as smooth on the highway now not a single shudder. I’m aware of the service bulletin about the transmission fluid, and the flush recommended with the synthetic fluid which can be very costly out of warranty. The stealership in my city, and they really do live up to their name Steele Saint John, told me there wasn’t anything wrong with my truck at all, even after I showed them multiple copies of service bulletins issued by General Motors, and still they boldfaced lied and said “ nope that’s normal” I was furious. I filed a complaint with GM Canada and of course they sided with the dealership. After worrying constantly about my transmission I found out about Lubeguard Platinum and knew I needed to try it. For less than 60 dollars Canadian shipped to my door, it was the best money I ever spent. Seriously if you still have this truck or anyone reading, try this product. Don’t forget to drain a bit of fluid first. Lubeguard recommends two bottles that are 10 oz each, so I drained a little to prevent overfilling.

@@explorernlearner I’ll be completely honest with you, I never thought I’d see the day that I would trade my dream truck, a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate edition 6.2, for a 2022 Ram 1500 Tradesman, but that’s exactly what I did. Shortly after that post actually. That Denali was my dream truck. I always wanted one, and it had the 6’5 box and lighter interior instead of black. It was black with power running boards, sunroof, every option really. The 6.2 was great, I loved the power. Everything seemed fine for the first year or so, then things started to go south. The transmission developed hard up shifts and downshifts from 1-2, and 2-1 gear. Usually, when it warmed up it didn’t do it. But every morning it would, and coming to a stop sign it would downshift when you were stationary, and it felt like you got rear ended it was that harsh. Then the shuddering with the transmission. Felt like I was driving a vibrator, it was very annoying and god knows what damage it did to the transmission. Also, going up say a city street if you slowed down to almost a stop and had to push the gas even a little bit, it would act like the transmission slipped and it would hard snap hard into gear after a delay, very dangerous. I could do on and on but in the end, personally I would stay away from any newer model gmc or Chevrolets, especially with this 8 speed transmission. It’s garbage, I don’t trust it. Also the AFM is garbage too. Spits lifters out left and right, and is a huge reliability issue. My Ram 1500 I really purchased has been night and day compared to the Denali. Yes, I prefer my ram tradesman to my Sierra Denali I never thought I’d say that! It sounds way better with stock dual exhaust option, I love the tips through the bumper. The 8 speed shifts flawlessly, and is light years ahead of the 8 speed that was in my Sierra Denali. No harsh shifts at all, smooth as silk. The hemi is very responsive too, lots of power. I have the 3.21 rear end as I don’t do a lot of towing. I just got back from a road trip through Maine, and I saw as high as 23 mpg on the gauge, not sure how accurate but my lifetime is just over 20 mpg. I think it would be pretty close anyways. Again I could go on and on like I already have, but I would stay away from this Sierra. I come from a diehard GM family, we have had GMC, Buicks, Chevrolets, and even a couple Oldsmobiles and they were all great. The newer ones went to hell, and are no near reliable compared to the other ones. I’ll never go back, they blew it with my last two trucks, one being this Denali the other being a 2014 Silverado. I liked that truck more than my Denali actually, I should have kept it. But it still had issues. My Ram sounds better, stops way better, steering is better, is just as responsive as my 6.2 ( it sure has a higher governed top speed). It doesn’t have as much low end grunt, but it’s plenty for me with 410 ft. Lb of torque, and the transmission beats GM’s all day, any day of the week.

@@asilaydying672 Personally I would stay away from these trucks with the 8 speed transmission, they have numerous issues and more than likely if you do encounter these issues the dealership won’t do much to help. In my opinion, even if you do get the fluid exchange done, these transmissions are a ticking time bomb. I’ve had people tell me the transmission failures of these trucks are from: moisture in the transmission fluid that caused a shudder and can glaze the torque converter, the torque converter itself, AFM engaging and disengaging while driving, improper thermostats, among other things. And to be quite honest I don’t really care what caused the issue, I just wanted it fixed. Like countless other GM owners however, I ended up selling it because the dealer would not do anything about it. From a life long GM family I will never by one of their products again.

Well since you have a 1500, I would recommend you go Toyota Tundra for a comparable 1500 type of truck. Toyota simply doesn't give issues what so ever. Even the new turbo V6 is bullet proof because a lot of Yankees don't know that the 3.45L V6 in the 2022 Tundra has been out internationally for years now in the Middle East, South America, Africa, Australia. However, they also get a diesel turbo, but sadly America only gets the gas version 🤷🏽♂️. Now if you want a bigger 2500 or above truck, then I recommend Ford. Ford doesn't play around with their trucks.

So I have this exact same truck with the same issue. Sierra 6.2 Denali .. just bought it 3 weeks ago and discovered some massive problems. I’ve been researching non stop and calling all the mechanics I know, and all the people with the same vehicle. 1 current theory is disabling your DFM system. There is a module you can buy for around $200 that keeps your truck in v8. Now I don’t 100% know if this fixes the problem because my truck is currently at the shop. But 1 person I know that also has this truck, was having this same issue, they installed a dmf disabler and problem went away. Going to go into more detail if you’re interested. I took my truck to the dealer because of this issue. What was discovered so far is there is also a misfire. They started by changing the spark plugs. They then found out one of the lifters is bad. After doing research, there are tons and tons of problems people are having with brand new gm trucks, in regards to the lifters. The problem seems to be occurring because the dfm shuts down half of the engine. This causes half of the lifters to stop. When driving in stop and go traffic, your lifters are constantly being started and shut down as the dfm changes from v8 to v4. SO, in this video, he is cruising so more than likely it’s in v4 while the truck is shuddering. Maybe this truck is also experiencing a miss fire due to lifter issues because of the dfm. Im not sure. Im not a mechanic but I’ve put about 30 hours of research this week just on this problem. I will update after my truck is fixed on what ended up happening. All I can say is I recommend looking into a dfm disabler. The reviews are fantastic
@dylanP112
2 жыл бұрын
Guys!! I am almost certain this is the issue! Not the trans. I have been doing a ton of research. So many people with brand new cars experiencing this issue, especially in the new blazers with a v6. What people are experiencing is when the dfm and afm kicks in and goes from v8 to v6 in trucks and v6 to v4 (etc) in other vehicles, the vehicle shudders. When v4 is active, is when the shuddering occurs. Id be curious to know if in this video when he is coasting if his truck is in V4 mode. Im willing to bet that it is coasting at this speed. I believe the remedy to this issue is a dfm and afm disabler!!! I don't 100% know because my truck is currently in the shop for lifter repairs... more than likely because of the afm and dfm. This is a massive problem with GM vehicles!!
