Annalisa Giorgio gloss gel is actually the recommended medium for artist grade adhesive, so it would def work!

Mary Foley I personally haven’t, and have not had any issues. It’s 100% up to you

You can use gloss medium to seal the panel. This is recommended by Golden for preventing SID (support induced coloration). I’ve also been taught to apply the gloss medium over the entire panel, front and back. This helps prevent moisture from entering the wood and making it swell.

Hi why not using adhesive spray?
@teaganwalker5710

linda20003 I find there’s issues with adhesive spray or even contact cement. If it gets too hot from temperature swings or even the torch when applying resin, it can bubble and come off.

Thanks Teagan, that was enjoyable to watch. May I ask why you chose 91% alcohol over the other percentages? Have you tried the various percentages and did you notice differences in how the inks behaved? Also, re: resin, its very expensive, do you have any tips on how to make it affordable? Doesnt it jack up the price of your artwork considerably? Is there some way to know exactly how much to use per project in order to minimise waste?
@teaganwalker5710
5 жыл бұрын
safi456 yes I did try it with 70% and didn’t like the results I was getting since it dried at a different speed. I couldn’t tell you if there’s any sort of hack or trick to making resin affordable. It’s just an expensive part of the process. It does not jack it up once you break it down and understand how much your cost is per square inch. Art Resin has a calculator on their website that tells you exactly how much you need to put a coat of resin on a project. Otherwise, there’s other means to find out how much you’ll need for volume.

Hey, do you seal your work with varnish before adding resin? I tried once pouring resin over work but it mixed in to resin...
@teaganwalker5710
5 жыл бұрын
Ruta Bajevaite depends on the size of the piece. When it’s smaller I generally do not. I find I only have the ink “bleed” if I actually touch the ink after the fresh resin has been applied. Normally I’m just grazing the top of the resin to spread it around

Thanks for sharing and I love the piece you were using to demo how it would look unframed on the wall. I have been framing my AI art but love the look on the wood panel. If You are going to do the resin as a final layer would I still need to seal the yupo first or will the resin be all you need?
@teaganwalker5710

Gayle Richmond not necessarily. I usually do a layer of Kamar so that it’s safe when I apply it to a wood panel, but otherwise everything is built into Art Resin. Their website has some awesome info on it and what’s inside it to help save the AI!

Hi thanks for the video! Can you recommend a good place to buy art supplies? alcohol ink, yupo, acrylic, birch boxes, etc?
@teaganwalker5710

GinitaXOXO there’s a couple options for supplies. I usually go to Curry’s for in store purchases (I find some ink, Yupo, they sometimes have acrylic, they have panels) or once in a while I go to Michaels and abuse those coupons haha. Otherwise, most of the stuff is done online

How many coats of each of the sprays do you apply? I always find that using the UV sprays before the Kamar makes my inks run. Will have to try the UV in the blue (green?) can to see if the same thing happens without the Kamar first. Also, Krylon has a UV protectant in a matte finish that's really really nice. My customers always choose the matte finished items over the glossy, which really surprised me.
@teaganwalker5710

Kate Eggleston I usually do one coat of Kamar and the UV resistant, and can do multiples of the Crystal clear if I feel like it. If you do the standard UV resistant first, it will reactivate the alcohol ink so you shouldn’t use it first. I finally used the UV Archival, and it didn’t reactivate the alcohol which was good to know. There are a few options to use as a final sealant for sure, but these are the ones I’m using currently so that’s all I shared.
@TheSkyAndTheSea

@@teaganwalker5710 That's great to know about the UV Archival. Nothing worse than doing 2-3 coats of Kamar, and then hitting the surface with the UV resistant and finding runs. Granted, I'm spraying ceramics, so I'm fighting gravity. I will most definitely try the UV Archival next time. Thanks for the help!
