At first it didn't work for me, I was about to give up and cut a hole in the firewall but then I tried different width flat stocks. Thinner width worked also I did by myself not being able to feel where the tab was. I basically followed the same angle and listened for a click then wedged it in harder took 2 times because it unwedged while figuring out the blower tool.

Great video(s) Some tips: make sure to get either a motor from the dealer or as shown the Swedish video an "aftermarket" motor which is actually an original Volvo motor(you've been warned!), others maybe noisy or require the screw to lock it in place. Carpet and seat removal may facilitate but are not necessary: can be done without the special tool IF the motor is no good, using wire cutters cut the all the arms/fingers of the fan blade as close to the center as possible, using a seat belt style oil filter tool and ratchet wrap around motors center and remove in same manner as Volvo tool...to reinstall...with someone holding the motor in place use the bar now to push the motor near the lock to reengage it. The vent duct behind the instrument cluster is very flexible, you can use something(like a 21mm socket :)) to spread the opening for a better view of the lock while passing bar underneath the duct. A mechanics pry bar (30in ish) will work in place of the bar. Hope this helps you if your stuck....

Thank you for the video. I just replaced today (Oct 25, 2022) the blower resistor on my 2011 xc60. I want to add few info that may be useful for the guys who will dare to do it themselves. First, it was not necessary to remove the carpet, just the plastic on driver side of the console. Second, indeed is required to remove the driver seat. Just DO NOT remove the electrical connector of the seat. Just push the seat in back, out of the way. Now I have a message: Airbag Malfunction or similar. There is an airbag built in the driver seat. Third, a proper troubleshooting is required before spending money on parts. What is the problem, the motor or the resistor or some other module. Since I have a background in electronics, and I could find the schematic, I could troubleshoot the system as described below. You need a voltmeter, a plain lamp won't help. Just remove the blower connector and have it accessible for test. With the ignition on Accessories, between ground and the Violet thin wire, the voltmeter will measure a voltage dependent on the adjusting speed button position. The more speed required, the more voltage. The Red wire should be 12 Volts The Black wire near Red should be 12 Volts. That is the wire that goes to the negative side of the blower motor. The last wire, black too should be 0 volts By putting a jumper between the two black wires and ignition ON, the fan should start full blast. That means your resistor is faulty and motor is good. I hope my shared experience will help other people in doing a good job.

Hi George, Could you briefly write the steps you did to replace the fan resistor? Is it necessary to remove the accelerator pedal? thank you
@georgegrigore6003
Жыл бұрын
@@salvofs Yes, I had to remove the accelerator pedal, disconnect the connector and take it out of the way. The actual blower resistor is located above the accelerator pedal, in the center console. There is a hole there where you will feel the resistor. It is surrounded by sound dampening foam. I had to remove some of it in order to have full access to resistor. In order to rotate the resistor counterclockwise to release it, I used a small crescent wrench, not much room there. You have to find the sweet spot to take resistor out. I think to put back the resistor is the most frustrating part of the job. I secured it by rotating clockwise using the same small crescent wrench. I replaced the resistor twice, because the first shorted out in 2 weeks and blower motor never stopped even with ignition off. Second resistor works fine. To be on the safe side, I installed an off/bypass switch hidden under dashboard, in this way I can turn it off if resistor shorted out or turn it on if resistor dies open loop. I don’t think is more to add. All the best.

Hi, I’ve got a 2013 Volvo v60 and I inherited a problem a few days ago. The cabin fans are running continuously. And it seems that no control for speed is achieved. It’s come to a point, where I’ve got to disconnect the battery when the car is parked. As the fan will run continuously when the engine is off. Is it a faulty relay module or this variable resistor? Did you encounter the same problem and fixed it with this solution? Waiting for your reply and input. Thanks

Hi Matheus, I have a 2010 Volvo XC60. There is no airflow whatsoever coming from my vents, but if I'm driving it's extremely weak (likely due to the engine fan passing air through). Wondering if this is more likely a blower motor control module/resistor failure or an actual blower motor failure? Is this something that a scan on the system could diagnose? Took it to my mechanic and he didn't want to touch it, but also didn't provide the codes to diagnose. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Note: My P3 2010 S80 sedan has a molded rubber-and-foam panel adjacent to the blower resistor. This is apparently not present on the later XC vehicles presented in instructional videos. Part cannot be removed unless you cut away some of the rubber and foam after removing the connector and before releasing the blower resistor. Then proceed as shown here and in other instructional videos.
