Do you recommend a weight pellet for the type of shooting you're doing. I have a rifle on order and have some 10 grain pellets on hand. Thanks for the info.

For .177 cal guns, if I had to choose one pellet, it would be Crosman Premier Match 7.9 grains.

For getting correct length of pull : you could fit a butt pad which will make the pull slightly long and resolve your problem good shooting

Thanks for the video, very helpful information. Try to decide which model for backyard target practice: HW50S or HW80 or HW95L or HW77K ... so confused. No hunting, just backyard plinking ... hopefully can shoot a can in 75-100 yds. Thanks.

Also check out vermin hunters tv youtube channel. He uses a hw99s hw50 over where you are but its a custom tuned version called the imp. He has a .22 one and a.25 aswell the are both around 11ftlb and he shoots out to 50yards with amazing accuracy.

I found this gun at a local gun shop here in Italy. They are offering it for 330 euros with the scope and for 240 euros without it. Is the scope worth it or could I get a way better one for that price?
@JimGetzen
7 жыл бұрын
It depends on the quality of the scope. For 110 euros, I'd say the glass should look clear and crisp to your eyes. You might compare it to other scopes in the shop to get a feel for the relative quality.

Jim. I was given a HW50 that has not been shot for about 10 years. What do I need to do to bring it to where it should be as far as maintenance is concerned? Also what is the difference between the 50 and the 50s?Good review and thanks.

+william slimmers The HW50 is a classic. For the specific differences and for maintenance advice, I recommend you go straight to a forum of experts. It's called the Yellow forum. Register, ask questions, and you will get a lot of helpful information. Here's the address: www.network54.com/Forum/79537

hey jim I really enjoyed your review of the hw50s. ?I'm a big fan of german springers. Do you have any others? Are you planning on reviewing more air rifles? Specifically any other springers?
@JimGetzen
10 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I have a Beeman R9, which the same as the HW95 but with no iron sights. It's the big brother to the HW50S. I have a couple of PCPs, and I used to have an Air Arms Pro-Sport. I'd like to do more reviews, but my life is very busy with work and kids. Some day.

well i'd suppose those things should definitely come first jim. I'm very familiar with the beeman hw line of rifles as well as the high end English AA rifles. They are all fantastic heirloom quality rifles. Seems as though you like the quality made springers like I do. I was just curious about what you had planned for the future. I'll subscribe, and I hope you can find time to do more someday in the near future. I'll keep my eyes open for it. Thanks

Did you use this gun for FT in competition too?
@JimGetzen
10 жыл бұрын
Yes, for one or two matches. It's accurate enough, but a little underpowered for the 45 to 55 yard targets. It'll knock them down, but the pellet drop makes distance estimation more critical. It has been awhile since I've competed, but I currently use either a Beeman R9 (HW 95, the big brother to the HW50S) or a Benjamin Marauder for FT.

Jim, Pyramid, et al, should always give the pellet they used when rating the speed of the pellets. I'll bet they always use the lightest pellet they can find! :-)

I think in most cases certain manufacturers are to blame, rather than the retailers. They get caught up in hyping speeds to lure ignorant buyers.

I believe in freedom of choice. As with many rifles, the HW50S allows one to use either the provided open sights, a scope, target peep sights, a red dot sight, etc. Each has its benefits and drawbacks. As for testing the scope and not the gun, that's nonsense. In truth, *both* are being tested, along *with* the pellets, the benchrest, the environmental conditions, and of course, the shooter himself. That said, a decent scope is usually the *most* consistent variable among all of those.
@dtripakis

You should not add a scope on a rifle first thing. Scopes are heavy, expensive, fragile and take the fun away. They are not necessary on air rifles, contrary to what the industry is trying to imply. You should not be helping them in this. Havent you realized that you are actually testing the scope and not the gun ?

Good comprehensive review; I have owned quite a few spring guns but the 50S is one of the most accurate and I like it a lot. The only thing I dislike is the automatic safety which I kept forgetting to take off. In the end I simply removed the safety catch! This may be frowned upon but I shoot alone, not at a club or field target gathering and I keep my finger well clear of the trigger until I'm ready to take the shot. The Rekord trigger is the best I've experienced on any make of spring gun.
