I think *religious* polygamy is the problem. Polyamory doesn't seem to be a problem, it's when men use polygamy to control women and children that it's an issue. A person can love two people, maybe even three. If you only have one legal spouse and you fall in love with someone else (and you have a reasonable number of children), that's between you and your partner(s) and none of my business. When you start saying that God wants you to have seven wives and more kids than you can afford (financially or emotionally), that's when it becomes a problem. When people with high levels of jealousy start participating because they think they'll be destroyed if they don't, it becomes a problem. When people commit welfare fraud or other crimes because they can't support their massive families, it becomes a problem.

I’ve been curious if there was a lot of ritual Satanic abuse in the AUB since I saw a disturbing and rather obvious (to me ) photo Kody posted of himself on Instagram standing in front of Vudoo Pizza. From what I know on the subject, it seemed like very intentional communication to others in the know, but this is the first time I’ve heard the subject brought up.

If a typical woman wants to leave an abusive marriage, there are often family members, parents, siblings or friends who are there for them. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been when your entire family ... parents, siblings, children, were all inside the polygamous group. Sounds very scary and brave.

I have excluded a lot of humanity from being a part of my life due to their unbelief in God and not understanding what Christianity is about. Many friends who end up being back stabbers, and ruin your reputation or the most common one, hold you responsible for their types of choices when I personally know they are wrong.

I was a slave labeled as a wife in polygamy. I was sold at 16 given to a man I never wanted to be with. I was not favered and had hardships because I was not able to produce a baby every year. I worked four jobs to support the children I had. They paid me minimum wage and I worked 80 hours a week to pay my bills to support my small children and feed them. I worked for the church and had babies for the church. I was sat down and told how cadle have a baby every year and how to make sure that baby is a girl. Because the man I was sold to was never home I had to understand how my body works and how to have that baby and have it be a girl. I was not human. I was a slave. If a wife or the man wanted to hit me they did.

Thank you Julli for having the courage to stand up for yourself and share your experience. Most people in Utah have no idea the horrors inherent in the system of polygamy right here in their own backyard. While african-american slavery and polygamy are different in many ways, slavery is the only term that comes even close to describing how women are treated in some of these groups.

You were never a slave as my ancestors and continue this narrative is incredibly inhumane to the legacy of my people. You have never feared being lynched, you never were impregnanted at 9 years old and had your legs tied when going into labor thrown to the pigs to be consumed because you were too weak to work 15 hours a day with no food no water no protective clothing picking cotton or tobacco or sugar cane. You were never given rotten table scraps as sustenance. You never had your children ripped from you womb to be sold off to another plantation owner for more labor. You were never forced bred to create a stronger harder working slave. You were not forced to eat off the floor because of the color of you skin. You never crossed the Atlantic Ocean and died from narcotizing facitis because your skin was literally rotting from marinating in your own feces and urine for months.

That being said, Angela Kelly showed intolerable assumed privilege and bombed her own agenda by including such a degrading display of Rep. Hollins. There is no message so important that it has to include an action or dialogue that could be interpreted as tone-deaf, white privilege, ignorance, or racism to the extent that it makes a person of colour >who invited you, as a guest<, to become so uncomfortable with your interaction that they feel they have to >get up and leave the room<.

I have myself compaired Polygamy to Slavery. For a representative in my own state to try and tell me that we can't think that the way we were raised in a cult was not slavery, let me educate you. When you are born into the Kingston Cult a bank account is created in your own name, your life is started with a debt that you have to work off. I had my first job at 13. Others start much younger. When you have a job you start paying room and board. You work where you are told to work. Some get sent to farms, some got sent to the coal mine (when it was in operation), others worked at brick and mortar businesses. You worked long hours, yes even at 8 years old. As you got older you were being prepared for marriage. You weren't choosing who you married, that was being chosen for you. Who you married was worked out between the men, the leader in charge had last say on who someone would marry. Us girls were taught how to be a subservient wife and to obey our husbands. And how to raise our children to be the same. Once married I didn't dare to go against what my husband asked me to do in fear of being beaten, even if it was just the way his food was prepared. Comparing Polygamy in Utah to Slavery is a very appropriate thing to do, and to tell a victim otherwise is insensitive in it's own right. I hope those who felt offended by what happened at the utah democratic caucus can take how they felt and imagine how hundreds of victims feel, how not only how their ancestors were treated but how they were treated feels. Definition of slavery 1a: the practice of slaveholding b: the state of a person who is a chattel of another 2: submission to a dominating influence 3: DRUDGERY, TOIL

@@kerkyra4eva .... some women are taken from their children and sent off to "repent" in solitary confinement for months or years. Many of these women literally go crazy or commit suicide. Young girls are "broken in" and traded as sex slaves to older men. Some even sexually abuse their own daughters, justified in doing so by the "law of Lott" or the fact that God impregnated his daughter Mary. (look into Rachel Jeffs story if you don't believe me) Men found in apostasy are murdered at "the fireplace" and they justify doing this because of a doctrine of "blood atonement" which states that if someone is guilty of sin, you are doing them a favor by shedding their blood and killing them, this is how you save their soul. Many polygamists also teach that black people are the evil descendants of cain and will be wiped out when God "cleanses" the earth, which is why there is to be no inter-racial marriages and other racist policies....the list go on an on. Yes, black slavery is different but the atrocities of both black slavery and polygamy are on par with the most horrific human rights violations. The only real difference is institutionalized black slavery stopped 150 years ago, however polygamist slavery is alive and well TODAY!

People believe that this is about consent.. This is about systematic abuse, control, and manipulation... Sounds worse then slavery. Utah sure loves to punish every other crime without judgement ... or remorse. But they sure Do turn a blind eye, when the States cheap labor pool has a problem. I would face more consequence from the law for having 3 pot plants vs 3 wives... But they have zero problems enforcing drug courts, rehab, and loosing custody of kids to those type of offenses. Utah has never treated Victims of polygamy - like a problem to be fixed, more like a problem to ignore. I compare this mentality, to those states that allow 'sanctuary cities'... They only create a safe place for criminals... It does nothing to address the crimes, in fact it gives them a big blanket to hide under... Just like Polygamy does- And Utah should be ashamed the amount of fraud on Tax dollars by these groups like Kingston, and Jeffs run more Like Mob Families!! Are the Kingston polygamous clan campaign contributors? Anyone with an hour of researching can see how horrible women are treated under this 'religious freedom' farce. It's theological sex slavery when the religious leader tells them they'll go to hell and be separated from their children if they don't "willfully" become a concubine for an assigned husband. How is this barbaric practice still around in the 21st century?
