I tried using the complex thin for main crash but it's just too heavy. I think I'm going to switch to an evolution for my main crash. How's the body and the artisan?

I just ordered 14" artisans, I may never financially recover but they are exactly what I want in a pair or hats. Theyre warm dark and buttery yet amazing articulate diffintion with a timeless sound. What turned me on to them was the Cobus Take a look Around limp Bizkit Drum cover. He does amazing hi hat work with these in that cover. definitely worth a listen.

I think it’s down to the individual cymbals because I have the ozone and complex crashes and they don’t sound like these. Maybe mine are slightly more hammered or thinner or something but with hhx stuff I would recommend checking them out against them selves if the store has more than one. I also think this mic stand and a resonating at certain frequencies

I have the HHX complex all around and have the Mediums in 14, 16 and 20... I keep thinking I want to try something else, as the Complex don't cut through the mix super well and aren't very bright and have a thick buttery sound and long sustain, and I want more brightness and cut.... but every time I buy another cymbal I end up selling the new one on and prefer the HHX Complex still. Maybe I just need to learn to be happy with what I have. :) Complex are so good.

M80 actually sounds cool on snare, tried it myself. Supercardioid pattern is definitely a plus, it was extremely easy to gate and also boost the highs without any cymbals poking through

Do you remember when you were a beginner, that time you buy the cheapest cymbals..... Now that i know what i want, 10 years later, i'm looking on youtube to all theses comparison videos for splashes, crashes and chinas, and i'm like, "oh i want this one, the sound is perfect", and then i go on a dealer's website to see the price, and the cymbal i want is EXACLY the most expensive one ! I'm like "oh god, 300 bucks.... come on !!!". Anyway, perfect video, right on point, that's what we want ! Thanks

The 15” Artisan Hi Hats for the win! This pair seems to sound better than mine however, mine are post Vault (without the V logo) and traditinal finish whereas yours seem to be brilliant? 1st 15” Artisan 2nd 14” HHX Complex 3rd 14” Artisan 4th 15” Legacy

All of them sounded good. If I were to actually buy any of them though, I would likely remove the regular AAX, the Hand Hammered, and the Radia from my options. They don’t really fit the sound I’m trying to go for very well.

I have a Zildjian L80 set: 13" hats, 18" Ride. Because of their high price I went with a Arborea 20" Ride. Sound and personal taste are subjective, however for me the Arborea is a much better cymbal. They have a better sound, are a little bit thinner and more responsive than the Zildjians. The Zildjians have a more tin sound in their ping, while the Arborea has a more musical ping. This may not be a big issue for most as these are practice cymbals, but since I play a lot of swing jazz, as we say: ping is king. They sound more musical to my ears and are more pleasing to play.

This is one hell of a snare sound, good job on tuning mate! Regarding the mics, it doesn't matter that much, they will be EQed to oblivion in a modern mix. Good thing about A7X is that it is supercardioid, which reject hihat bleed much better than SM57 for example.

I have a set of cheaper low volumes that sound similar to the aborea. Ive also used the low volume Zildjian in college and though I don’t agree on the inflated price, the zildjian proved to be better in terms of what they’re designed to do. The zildjian shave a duller tone and this is perfect for the quiet practicing you may need to not anger the neighbors. The cheaper ones like the Aborea are a lot brighter and have a distinct ching to it which actually makes them louder, which in turn dosent do the job as well. BUT if you’re in a budget then these types of cymbals are perfect if you’re ok with the brighter sound, and you can always add tape to them to kill the sound some more. Just my personal thoughts on this, cheers.
