Ian Dury was an Upminster lad and I was Upminster Bridge in those days. The Bridge House (now The Windmill) was where we all met. A lot of those people he mentions were people the rest of us tried to avoid. However Ian was a true talent because he feared no one and he did his own thing. Brilliant guy.

Loved Ian Dury but Parkinson (and all of us) lacked a sense of humour when it came to disability. Ian Dury gave every disabled person a voice.

Always love to hear this again. One of those type of songs that you remember the very first time with its raw unbridled kind of confused and angst-ridden pathos. The kind of song that you have to stay tuned to the radio to find out "Who was THAT?" You can take all the slick production in the world and shove it; this is real music right here.

Thank you for keeping this interview alive. It's a pity that a way hasn't been found to sharpen old footage in the way that Peter Jackson's team were able to restore old audio. But as or content, I just felt every sentence Ian spoke could have been the start of so much more information; such a wealth of experience and insight. What a wonderful man; intelligent, independent and loving. We're losing all the wrong people.

Apparently Ian dury asked all bastards to drop throwing mud at the stage. A four year old me loudly proclaimed to my mum "mummy! That man said bastards!" I always had to be told not to say bollocks bastards (usually before a visit to my grandma's) but didn't think he should say it if I couldn't 😂😂
