The design of the box is wrong as it has shearing surfaces on the rh side. On closer look there are shear surfaces on the left hand side. It has been made dangerous to make it look good in a corner. Remove the two end sections to make it safe. The current design would act like a guiotine and shear off fingers

What was the force on the first video and what was the force on the second video?
@lightlegion3703

yeah, I tried this correct configuration with furniture hinges and it ripped them off when closed. The weight of the cover is to be 7 kg and the force of the lifters is 2x 150N. For testing i used just one of them and 2kg lid. When the lid is closed, the forces act in the direction opposite to the hinges. It was to much for them but enough for lid opening in my calculation. I have already drilled the sockets for the hinges, so installing other is complicated and unsightly

Can you advise me on what struts to get to support a box I built over the weekend. I have 2 lids, one big one at 6ft long and 950mm deep probably weighs 25/30kg Second lid is only 3ft wide and weighs 10kg give or take and 950 deep.🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪☘️

In the 2nd example shouldn't the top strut pivot point (on the lid) end up below the lower-bench pivot point of the strut? The strut has to put a little downward pressure on the lid. Or am I wrong? It seemed to me the lid was still pushing up a bit so the strut was still pointing up when when the lid was closed. I thought I read, struts should end up downwards (to explain better: the top end of the strut moves from 1 o'clock to 9 o'clock (horizontal) as the lid is almost closed, then goes just barely over the horizontal (so 8:55-59 in terms of clock analogy) to put pressure on the lid - while not cutting fingers off, it should force the lid down a tiny bit). Am I missing something? - Thanks for the vid btw!!!

It looks like they have used a gas strut mechanism like what's used in the hood of a car and trunk mechanisms, there is a swinging latch up top to allow the window to fully open which is screwed back into the frame of the van and a certain type of latch, reminds me of the latch on airplane table tray backs a little. I think I could create this for my own van with a little help from some mechanics and engineers around! Do you think I could do this in my rear windows on a cargo van, it already had the holes for a popup window! I dont see why not? Eager to try as there are multiple fixed windows and it's a van conversion I'm getting ready to live in! The back windows already have the holes that can be unbolted to mount the pop up windows they barely open though so was looking into a possible alteration without paying a company to do it. Sweet window you got there!

I've been trying to install gas struts to help push my wall bed up against the wall and ease it down, but no matter what angle I put the struts at the struts run out of space before the bed is full lowered. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong? This seemed pretty straight forward at first.
@DarthxDread

What did you end up doing ? I would think you attach the strut to the bed first and then attach it the the wall frame by closing the bed almost fully closed.thats whatnot going to try.

Yes, if they are mounted like the last example, but the lower point beneath the hinge, it should lift automatically.

@@nordemoniac Why was the 2nd one working better? I
@nordemoniac
3 жыл бұрын
@@cubul32 Because of the way it was mounted. One thing is having the correct struts in terms of weight. But mounting them in the first orientation makes sure to hold the lid well when open (useful on a bit that is rocking) but the second makes the lid lighter all the way through operation, but will not hold it in the upright position as strongly as the first. For this application the 2nd way did make much more sense.
