George Martin was the predominant composer, not McCartney, and should have at least a share of the Ivor Novello Award the following year in 1967. I dont understand why McCartney has not been challenged on this.

Don't care for most of the music being played, but he does have a beautiful voice that's more suited to softer toned emotional songs.

There is nothing like jazz. Jazz musicians like Coltrane spend a lot of time feeling the music.

posted 14 years ago, but came to mind just today. Wanted to read the comments to get a feel of what Beatle/Paul fans thoughts/impressions were... A lot of good observations. Want to put my 2 cents in for what it's worth... 1: Home demo circa summer/fall 65. 2: Definitely Paul doing Dylan! Big Time! 3: Paul must have gave a copy of the demo tape to John. A. to hear what he (Paul) came up with. B. For John to learn the new tune and possibly come up with a middle part. Which he most certainly did! 4. Many, many years later, while stoned out of his mind at the Dakota, John was feeling creative, wanted to record some wacky improv, needs to find a reel to reel tape to record on. Knowingly or un-knowingly grabs the first tape he can find, hears it's an old demo macca gave him a zillion years ago when they were fab (worthless , meaningless now to Lennon), doesn't give a shit, presses the record button and begins his artistic endeavor for the evening. A few notes on the demo... It's a half step down. in C# instead of Dmaj on the recording. McCartney had his Ephphone Texan tuned down a full step for the recording of "Yesterday (probably right around the same time this demo was recorded.) Either he thought he did, or just went up a half step.? It is a pity that Lennon recorded over the remainder of the demo. Would be nice to have the full "demo" version. Maybe McCartney has the ORIGINAL copy in his archives? Very cool to hear how much of an influence Dylan played on the Fabs. I think that just about covers it.

Was Trane or Bird the greatest jazz sax player ever? When I'm listening to John Coltrane I think he was, and when I'm listening to Charlie Parker I think he was. What I'm always certain of is both guys could PLAY. Trane blows some great music here.
