The Vanderbilt Cup Races in Long Island, NY, USA from 1904-1910. Racers from Germany, Italy, France and the USA competed. They were the first International automobile road races held in the U.S. In 1908, a Locomobile, built in my home state of Connecticut, won this prestigious event! 😊

With wood spoke wheels, very high center of gravity, minimal braking capability and no way to keep from being tossed out in an accident, I'm sure it redefined the word scary!

Much more exciting back then. Some cars had 18 liter engines and topped 170 kph. The organization and paddock had nothing missing compared to today. The circuit was super exciting and dangerous. The racing was totally unpredictable and the winner was decided by the combination of the car’s revolutionary technology, the crew’s faster pit-stops, brains and soul strength.

Although funny- when you consider the race driver conscience, it can be looked as "inflation", because now 16 yo is driving his golf 3 about 100km/h. So yea- probably the feeling and the physics of the vehicle was, not like 526mph, but around 280km/h

This is where Grand Prix racing began. I just find it so funny.... 1906 French GP: 1st: Szisz / Renault 2nd: Nazzaro / FIAT 1907 French GP: 1st: Nazzaro / FIAT 2nd: Szisz / Renault and 100 years after the very first Grand Prix, the French Grand Prix happens again. But this is the outcome: 1st: Schumacher / Ferrari 2nd Alonso / Renault So, the 2006 French Grand Prix was a mirror image and remake of the French Grand Prix that happened 99 years earlier instead of 100. Simply hilarious.
