Beating crap out of lead is fine If you don't know how to weld joints.lead beating thins out the material and as a result it tends to tear quite easily, especially the back trays on high pitched roofs. I've used both methods nothing wrong with either one, but I find if you weld it allows you to deal with tricky corners a lot easier. Tip ask a plumber on site to show you how to properly weld two pieces of lead together.

The hardest bit is getting it started you can’t quite get the bit that goes around the corner to touch the plank but second time you can which is vital really. notice I hold it against the plank with my thumb when creating the straight line
