Love using this wax for all my Barbour wax jackets, it's so much easier than Barbour's recommend wax! Thank you :-)

That wax is awful. Ruined my jacket. I’ve rewaxed Barbour and belstaff with their own wax with no issues but the gold label wax would disappear while using a hard drier but as soon as the jacket is worn white streaks and cracks….

Don't throw the sponges away that've been used to wax the jackets. Just heat the sponges up and they can be used again. I've just rewaxed 2 Barbours this way and I think I can do more.

When I was a kid my mate had a wax jacket that he was fanatical about. Obviously we thought this was hilarious and antiquated. We had synthetic jackets that were much lighter and more comfortable, and rightly assumed that technology had moved on. Now all these decades later I do camping and bush craft. Not only have I become a fan of waxed jackets, but I make my own recipe of Greenland wax, and Im about to make a set of tin pants and a tin jacket. I have literally come full circle. Synthetics are great for "ultralight hikers", tourists, and people trying to summit Everest. But if you actually need to do some WORK, and you need kit that will come with you, protect you, come back in one piece, and be ready to go right back out again, you cant beat good quality waxed canvas. Its waterproof, somewhat breathable, hardwearing and the waxing lubricates the fibres so the canvas itself last many times longer than its normal life expectancy. 200,000 lumberjacks cant be wrong.

Always melt the wax for a good twenty minutes and make sure you’re in a dry warm area. Keeping the jacket warm is essential to relaxing the fibres so it takes in the wax. Never apply it in a gel like state, you’re not going to get an even coating that way.
A very good and informative video. Thanks for uploading this. 👍

Hello Rich could youplease help me... I ignorantly put mine in the wash due to the unpleasant smell. I've read the jacket can no longer be rewaxed. What will happen if I apply this Barbour tin on the washed jacket? As I don't see there being any significant difference from it being like any normal wax touch up

You can wax any cotton. Take your time, small amounts hand rubbed in. It may take an hour or 2. Spread it out over several days if you must. I've waxed canvas that had never been waxed before, and turned out well.

waxed-cotton jackets are a true piece of tradition to wear, AND a waxed cotton garment is far better for the environment than the new outdoor products of nylon, which have lots of very dangerous chemicals!!!! This fact really DOES NOT fit with the idea of pristine nature, the outdoor equipment industry should seriously think about it. I got back to old canvas surplus bags... they are a better option, and carry a lot of history too less is more, simple is beautiful

this took me 1hr to wax jkt. put in hot room for about 6hrs jkt looked minted. wen jkt cooled down it became hard i thought no dramas it will sofen up. it sort of cracked showing white marks think i put far too much on but i was thinking the more the better. anyways back in hot room everything melted jkt looking minted again. same again white cracks but not as bad. put hairdryer over cracks then bk into hot room. Everythings perfect now no cracks wen bending arms jkts softened up & its as waterproof as a ducks arse. took a wile but really happy with results will try less next time.

After using a hair dryer on it, it evened all out and looked great - a little bit of white around the back shoulder - where I put way too much LOL! But a little more of the hair dryer and it looks amazing - better still, it really does repel the water like a duck!

Is oilskin the same as wax? Or is that something different? I bought an oilskin duster a few years ago, and I'd like to reproof it ( it may or may not actually need it, but just to be safe ). I already have the wax ( which does require melting ), but I don't know anything beyond that.

+Angel Bowfinger I think oil cloth uses boiled linseed oil or something like that. It's different from wax cotton. I'm not sure whether oil cloth is the same as oilskin though. It looks like it's not a specific term judging by the Wikipedia article.

The jar of Gold Standard will last MANY waxings - you don't use much. In the video, he puts it on by hand and I did the same - a little dab on fingertips, rubbing in all over in sections and used only about an 1/8th of the jar. Jacket looks amazing and is so waterproof! The water flows off it like water on a ducks back! :)
