People are welcome to visit Ecuador but if for any reason someone finds it difficult to adjust you are welcome to leave, I assure you that it won't affect anyone. By the way if you are interested in culture I suggest you reading about our history from prehispanic times to the Spanish conquest it seems to me that it would be an interesting subject. I also share as data that Quito, Cuenca, Galapagos, Yasuni park and a few other sites in Ecuador are recognized by UNESCO as world heritage sites.

Too many people on the 'go' fail to grasp the very basic of living outside your familiar paradigm. Foreign countries are called 'foreign' because they are foreign. The obvious challenges are language, politics, education, religion, food, customs, courtesy (or lack of it), honesty, criminal activities, economics, how the legal system works ($), poverty, and distrust. It's different sometimes to the extreme. Foreign adventurers who migrate typically don't stay long and cluster in the English bar scene and English speaking anything. It is not like anything you thought you knew from You Tube and the media telling you it's is heaven. Before you migrate to anywhere in the world my best advise is learn the language first. The challenge of not speaking or understanding at all levels is usually the ultimate 'deal' breaker.

In Ecuador, beards are weird. Dont. Making blanket statements about Ecuador, North Americans have a hard time believing this small country could be so different north to south and east to west. Some cities ARE dangerous. Some cities are as safe as anywhere in the USA.

I hope you are grateful for all the things you took for granted while in America. I don’t know you, but I guarantee you did. Next time you want a 1st world class experience don’t go to a 3rd world country (my country) and expect st Regis vibes. Hopefully as you travel to other places you learn how to bring your comments to a real balance where you talk about the highs and the lows of the experience. I bet you that the one thing that you can’t say is that people weren’t kind and helpful to you in every place you went. Sadly, it sounds like you didn’t learn that Passive aggressive isn’t synonymous to kind.

I have heard that people from the US coming up to Canada have tummy troubles with the food. It's richer and clean. I know when I go down to the US I have nausea from the food because the quality is a lot lower and they have so much more additives and such in their food where here in Canada we are not allowed to have. Maybe that is the reason why people are having tummy issues when they go down to Ecuador? It is higher quality and a shock to your stomach.

Coffee and milk are subjective. I love Ecuadorian milk, it's actual, natural milk, delicious. I consider milk in the US just white water, too processed to still be called milk, just bland. I also like the coffee in Ecuador better. Americans tend to throw more things into their coffee, so that it diverges from its original taste, so same logic... is it still coffee? If you tip some locals won't appreciate it, since it changes expectation. No locals ever do it.

The Constitution of Ecuador provides for a four-year term of office for the President, Vice-President, and members of the National Assembly with concurrent elections. Presidents and legislators may be re-elected immediately. Citizens must be at least 16 years of age to vote: suffrage is universal and compulsory for literate persons aged 18 to 65 and optional for 16 and 17 years of age and other eligible voters.

I moved here 18 months ago. Definitely keep a couple of twenties in the console of the car. I've needed them 3 times out on the coast. Uber isn't illegal per se, it's just that Ecuador requires a different license type for drivers to run a car related business. If they have a type B like me, they are supposed to charge for a ride. Also, don't forget to warn your subscribers how risk tolerant people are here. They drive dangerously and construction sites look high risk. Very odd to this risk averse American.

I can sympathise with some of your findings about Ecuador. For americans coming here and renting or intending to buy a car, something to note, The gas is sold in US gallons, but the gasoline is rated in RON not AKI as in the states, We have Extra at 85 RON which equates to 80 AKI and Super at 95 RON which is 90 AKI. Its the RON number you see on the pumps here. Also theres no self service, or card operated automated pumps. Its usually cash at the pump to the attendant, or by card again by way of the attendant, just tell him how much you want, usually its by price, as in $5 / $10 or "Llena de tanque" Be careful with modern cars, as they will ask if you want it rounding up, that is if its $20.48, do you want $21 worth. Get it wrong and you can have a problem technically with a modern car.)

We usually drink a glass of water out of the tap immediately when we get somewhere new to let our stomachs acclimate. This is only done in places where the drinking water is deemed safe. We heard this tip from a travel buddy but have no idea if it works or not.
