USA irritiert, der Mutterkonzern ist zwar in Amerika, hier sind es aber Autos, die in Germany konstruiert und in verschiedenen europäischen Ländern hergestellt wurden. Später auch noch in der Türkei und in Argentinien.

This is such a nat car. I was looking through a picture book from my grandpa when he was in the army during the occupation period after WW2 in Germany. This was his car in Germany.

Nice video, but there are many inaccuracies: The "Bigger 3rd generation" was from 1964 to 1967. The cars shown from 4:00 to 4:24 are all of the "Bigger 3rd generation" - the ones with basic trim are 17M models, and the ones with more trim are 20M models. The "Bigger 4th generation" is different from what you illustrate (You are in fact illustrating the low-trim 17M version of the "Bigger 5th generation"). To see what the "Bigger 4th generation" looks like, see this link www.taunusmania.com/index.php/taunus-17-20m-p7a. The whole of the "Taunusmania" site www.taunusmania.com/ is an excellent reference (in French). The cars were sold mainly in Europe (very little in England), in South America, and later models in South Africa. So most of the references are not in English. I was the proud owner of a 1966, 20M Hard-Top, which became mine in 1979 (while I was a student), after a long service as our main family car.

Yonathan, there was no „bigger“ Generation und jetzt mach ich mal in Deutsch weiter. Abgesehen vom Vorkriegsmodell Taunus von 1939 gab es in Köln auch damals schon 2. eine größere Modellreihe. Man baute ein leicht geänderte Version des US V8. Und auch in den Jahren vor 39 gab es den Ford Eifel als „deutschen“ einen „kleineren“ Ford und die mit aus den USA angelieferten Teilen zusammengefügten Modelle Ford A und B. Nach dem Krieg begann man mit den noch vorhanden Werkzeugen zunächst wieder mit dem Taunus von 1939, der übrigens ob der Karosserie den Beinamen „Buckeltaunus“ erhielt. Erst 1957 kam dann wieder eine 2. Fahrzeuglinie hinzu, der Taunus 17m auch hier später wieder mit einem Beinamem aus dem Volksmund versehen, der „Barocktaunus“. Wie dem auch sei. Die Modellbezeichnung Taunus war aus der Vorkriegszeit übernommen, als Ford mit den Modellnamen Eifel und Taunus auf „Deutsche“ Produkte verweisen wollte, obwohl es sich in Köln immer noch um ein US Unternehmen handelte. Übrigen, auch Opel war seit der Wirtschaftskrise 1929 an General Motors gegangen und längst ein US-Unternehmen. Man hatte dann in Köln mit dem Taunus 2. Linien, eine der unteren Mittelklasse, die in den 50er und dann mit wachsender Zahl in den 60 er Jahren sich über die Motorgröße um 1,0 bis 1,2 Liter bewegte. Köfer, Kadett, NSU und halt der Taunus 12m für den 1,2 Liter Motor waren die typischen Vertreter. Darüber etablierte sich die Mittelklasse mit nominal 1,7 Liter Modellen, auch wenn oft schon Motoren mit 1,5 Liter in diesen Autos werkelten und auch Motoren um 2 Liter verbaut wurden. 20 m P5 und Opel Rekord 1900- Der Ford Taunus 17m für halt diese 1,7 Liter Klasse war dann dieses „größere“ Modell. Sein Pendant war bei Opel der Rekord, der VW 1500 Stufenheck, nun eher immer noch Kleinwagen. Audi kam in den 60ern mit dem 90 und BMW und Mercedes waren halt preislich Oberklasse auch wenn es einen BWW 1500 gab oder einen Mercedes 180d. Man muss die Modelle zum Wettbewerb sehen. Ford behielt bis 1968 die Modellbezeichnung „Taunus“ in den beiden Modellreihen 12m da der P6 und 17m hier P7 bei ließ sie aber dann mit dem Zusammenschluss mit Ford GB zu Ford Europa fallen, da dann auch in Deutschland unter der schon etwas größeren P6 12m/15m Reihe der kleinere englische Escort wieder Spitzname „Hundeknochen“ angeboten wurde. Die Kölner Autos, der P 6 wurde übrigens längst in Genk, Belgien gebaut, hießen nur noch 12, 15, 17, nun auch 20 und dann noch ein 26m basierend auf den Plattformen P6 und P7. Der Capri aus Köln war eine Weiterentwicklung der Escort-Plattform. 1970 kam der Name „Taunus“ wieder zurück, nun aber auf der Gemeinschaftsplattform TC für den „Kölner“ bzw. Genker Taunus und dem englischen Cortina. Dies Modellvariante war entwickelt worden weil sich eine neue Mittelklasse etabliert hatte. Untere Mittelklasse war der Escort und Kadett, immer noch Käfer, der Golf kam 1974. Mittelklasse war nun der Opel Ascona und hier der Taunus TC, bei VW war es der Passat und Audi 80. Aus dem 17 m wurde Consul/Granada und der Rekord blieb bei Opel erhalten. Die Modelle waren aber größer und „schielten“ von der Kundschaft her in Richtung Mercedes, BMW und Audi 100. Was aber nie so richtig gelang.

In 1977-78 I owned a 65 Taunus small size with the V4, 4 speed on the column and front wheel drive. It looked exactly like the one pictured first, kind of a teal blue. I was stationed in Stuttgart and I went everywhere in that car. I loved it and miss it very much. Thanks for the video, brings back memories.

@thomas Schumacher Personally I drove the P5, P7 and later on TC the first and second model of the TC, so MK1 (the one with the big "Knudsen" nose) and MK2. The P5 was my own and we had such a wonderful time. Until today I miss a car with a long front bench instead of single seats.

About thirty years ago, I read an ad in the newspaper classified for a Ford "Taunus", and assumed for years after that it was a misprint. Little did I know that if not for the Taunus, there might NOT HAVE BEEN a Taurus! lol

@@evolutionofthecars949 Ah It's not in driving condition anymore. He put it into storage in 1999 when he got a new car. That was also the last time it was started. He stored it in a friends barn and he said that the friend agreed to 15 years of storage. So in 2014 me and him and my little brother went and got it, and damn, it was the sterotypical barn find. Allthough it was in one piece with no rust, it looked like we uncovered an ancient tomb. We now have it in our garage where it just sits. He is gonna plan to restore it when little brother and I move out, but now he apparently loves some old friend of 28 years, and I just hate her, but well well his choice. I can move out in 2 years anyway. But she has 2 small children (7 and 8) so that dream of restoring it in just 4-5 years is gone.
